This is probably some of the only recorded audio of a Winton 201A diesel engine in existence (that is, either it was recorded on the spot, or someone did an exceptionally good job dubbing a 567 or similar engine, because the exhaust and other sounds are perfectly synchronized to what's going on). Cool find!

This would actually be a 191A, the pioneer zephyr has the 201A

The audio was most definitely recorded on the spot.

As a University of Michigan aeronautical engineering student in the early 1930s, Clarence "Kelly" Johnson worked in the school's wind tunnel on projects including this U.P. streamliner. Later, he went on to establish Lockheed's famous Skunk Works, and was involved in designing the P-38 Lightning, F-104 Starfighter, A-12 Oxcart, and SR-71 Blackbird.

It's a shame these trains were all scrapped within a few years after their introduction.

Those were the days when trains had to back out of a wye to enter an end of track station because end cars were not control cars.

This power car had a Winton 191A distillate engine. NOT a diesel engine.

@@ErickC Eric, every time I see this old sound move on this video, the engine sound reminds me of an old John Deer farm tractor sound.

My son is special needs and he loves trains 🚆🛤🚋🚞🚝🚊🚉🚈🚇🚅🚄🚃🚂 especially streamlined trains like that one he thinks they are highly underrated and that Progress Rail, Siemens, or any other company that builds railroad equipment should build full size working replicas of the M10,000 and the departments of transportation should run them on lines that are not used anymore or don't get passenger service.
