I talk to young players now and say well he’s no Gary Moore……. and they all say ahhhh who?… Perhaps one of the most underated performers of all time. This man was a monster….. the tone he squeezes out of that goldtop is epic!!!!! R.I.P. GM

When people talk about guitar solos or lead guitar lines being "vocal-like," Gary Moore is probably the first person that comes to my mind. The man was one of the greatest to ever pickup the instrument.

I am 73 years young/old. Last year I was listening to "The Tenors" sing .... "Angels Calling." I was and will always grieve for my son who committed suicide. Someone saw my post about "Angels Calling." and told me to listen to Gary Moore. I had not heard him. His emotionally charged music takes me to places where sadness dwells even more but yet I am drawn into the music. My son may have listened to him; I don't know. I pray that Gary Moore found his peace at last. I sit here and try to visualize my son in Heaven smiling .

I was at that Hammersmith Odeon gig! This was the last encore. I was 21 years old in 1987 and had only been in London a few months from NZ. Me and my now wife couldn’t believe how good he was. Bob Daisley on Bass, Ian Paice on Drums and Neil Carter on Keyboards/guitar/backing vocals. After this song everyone kind of ambled out…no one was going to yell for another song after that. He had just played his heart and soul out! Absolutely love this guy.

It's a shame, there isn't a classic keyboard intro like the one on the Wild Frontier record. I learned to play the whole song, quite well, but I miss that intro, which strongly reminds me of a sunrise somewhere in the mountains. Otherwise, this song is one of the most beautiful creations that Gary gave us. Gary, let your guitar weep in the choir of angels, where you have been for several years...

Becoming lost in this, I suddenly realized I was crying ... a dead man's last tear. Not of sadness, you understand, or dismay. Rather as aware the depth of time gone by ... a hundred thousand generations of which we are each but a fleeting shadow, the mere blink of an owl's eye, a singular stage of transformation, nothing more. Gary Moore knew that.

This version has it's own merits compared with the Stockholm show. One can clearly hear the delay settings Gary is using and this guitar sound is moore in your face or direct sounding than the Stockholm version, imo. The level of clarity, pick attack vibrato, tremolo use is just sublimely brilliant,in this Wild Frontier period Gary was just on fire all the time, what a great tour this was in '87, I haven't heard a bad show, therein Gary really doesn't ever do a bad show as he gives just 110% all the time. The acoustics at the Odeon are way different than the stadium in Sweden. Just an incredible version, thanks for posting.
