Knight dispensed with the bar break in the treble in order to "eliminate the bad notes which normally occur on each side of the treble break bar". The frame is also much heavier, so to prevent the piano from toppling over backwards, Knight offset the rear castors.

I met Alfred knight many years ago in Toronto. He was a genius in his trade.....he was often asked to speak at piano conventions....he would start out his speeches saying..".Except for a beautiful woman, a piano is the most beautiful thing on the world".

Very enjoyable and interesting video, thank you. We own Knight number 61696, which we have decoded to be a 1977 model, with the full sound board and extensions from the back, as demonstrated in your video. It's finished in walnut and is 44" tall. Our kids have all learned on this piano, and we intend to keep it in the family. It will probably go to our second son, who has enjoyed it the most of all, for his use and for his family eventually. We live near Chicago. Cheers.

Could you do a video of how one of the genuine Knight K10s sound? I'm considering buying one at the moment and I can't find any good videos on KZbin of them being played. I guess they must be getting rare these days.

My Father bought a new K10 in about 1956 and I "supposedly" learnt on it (I went to a piano teacher weekly who had a grand - I never practiced in between lessons) until age 11. I inherited it when my father gave up playing in the early 1990s but I still didn't play really play it but my youngest daughter did learn some. So in May 2017 when she moved into the first house big enough for it, she inherited it from me. Then in September that same year I had an urge to learn again - but had to settle for a digital. I now love visits to my daughter and the opportunity to play it once more.

Thanks for the video. We've been trying to find information about the knight we bought from my sons piano teacher. It seems pretty old and we had no idea when it was made... Now we do 😊

A large cast iron brace in the frame on the underside was supposed to carry the tension where the treble bar was eliminated....on a visit to the foundry the owner told me these always broke during shrinkage after casting and it was standard practice to re-fuse the casting together before shipping to the knight factory
