UNIQUE STREET FOOD in Ho Chi Minh City:
Let's explore Ho Chi Minh city together (mostly through food)! I took in a day of sightseeing that evoked a lot of emotions, so my cure for everything is food. What better way to do it that at the Hồ Thị Kỷ market to sample some of the most unique street food you can find.
This street food market may be second to none and very authentic. As you will see in the video, I am still having a lot of problems with pronunciation of Vietnamese words but I determined to get better. Slowly but surely, right?
Anyway, back to the street food. At Hồ Thị Kỷ I sampled Gỏi Đu Đủ Khô Bò, Trứng Cút Lộn Xào Me, Bánh Tráng Nướng and more. If you're visiting Ho Chi Min, I can not recommend Hồ Thị Kỷ and their street food enough.

Westerners are timid towards a lot of the food...they are not fans of organ meats or innards. It will take years for them to come around. Chefs are now just starting to use fish sauce more and more and people are still afraid of it. Wait another 20 years and maybe it'll be more common.

This is only the second video I've seen from you and yet I subscribed. I'm impressed with your ability to articulate correctly the dishes you're trying, and you always choose delicious dishes that most foreigners don't know about. I don't know if it's because you looked it up beforehand or you have a food guide right there with you, but I appreciate that you did your homework! Other foreign travelers usually don't describe the ingredients, or they describe incorrectly. Oh, and I love that you can handle spiciness even more than a Vietnamese like myself!

Wow, thank you! I do try and do a bit of research before going to into anything. I am much less prepared here than I usually am but I am trying my best. My biggest issue so far is communication as I made a huge mistake in not studying more of the language before arriving. Usually I do, but procrastination got the best of me

Try the dessert " chè " . They are sweet mixtures of red beans or mungo beans, tapioca and coconut milk . Very fresh when served with ice cubes . A good way to end a meal .

Goi? ddu du? Was my favorite after school snack. Most use beef liver substitutes to beef jerky. You must eat with lots of hot sauce to achieve the ultimate flavor.

The black beef jerky is actually beef liver coated with seasoning and dried. If you noticed, the taste is more mineral/iron like and more flavorful. And you cant "pull" the meat like you can with regular beef jerky. Hope this helps and bon apetit!

Thank you so much, it absolutely helps out. I have been told by others that it is liver but to me it tasted nothing like liver. Much sweeter and I didn't notice the irony flavour you usually get from beef liver as I'm not the biggest fan of beef liver. Love innards, even beef innards but for some reason I have never cared for beef liver

If you love everything extra spicy and you’re going to Hue, you HAVE TO try THE bún nem lụi stand in front of Đông Ba market - only open for lunch. There are street foods in front of the market but only one bún nem lụi stand, always super crowded so you should be able to find it. I was in Hue for 10 days and tried at least 2 different bún nem lụi places per day, but that one was by far the most delish and unique. One reason is they go overboard with the chili, which really enhances and ties everything together. It’s not just extra spicy; there’s def. smth special about their chili paste. At the time I could handle zero spiciness. I was soaked in sweat and tears and was blowing my runny nose every now and then, still I asked for 2 extra bowls. At first I asked the lady to go easy on the chili, but it didn’t taste the same. Since then I’ve come back a few times just to have that particular bún nem lụi.

Gotta throw a disclaimer here: The culinary standards in Hue is very high. During my times in Hue I never went to the most popular places but just went with my guts and tried whichever places I saw on the way that smells promising. All the bún nem lụi I tried was excellent, but the one in front of Đông Ba market is just … ugh i have no words. YOU GOTTA TRY IT PLEASEEE!!!

It seems you re a fan of spicy food, why dont you try "bún cá cay Hải Phòng " (Hải phòng spicy fish noodle) and "súp lươn Nghệ An " ( Nghệ An eel soup)

@@PureDetour You can only find that dish in Nghe An, they have a special recipe and spices, completely not fishy, eat it with bánh mì or bánh mướt, Nghe An is also Ho Chi Minh's hometown, you might visit it

My channel focuses on food more than anything else these days. I just spent a year in the Philippines and not one video contained anything to do with sites or scenery. It's been so long, I don't know if I remember how to put a proper travel vlog together. I'm in Danang now and will be going to Hanoi next. Perhaps, but I have eaten animal pancreas in many countries, and while it can have a slightly irony flavour it is nothing like liver. I can 100% assure you what I ate and described in this video was without question liver. That flavour is something that has been with me for almost 50 years

10:30 "phá lấu bò" "cháo lòng" là những món ăn làm từ nội tạng động vật ( dạ dày, ruột non, ruột già, gan, tụy, phổi....), nó rất ngon và giàu dinh dưỡng, tuy nhiên do chiếm 1 phần đường tiêu hóa nên các bộ phận này phải được làm sạch 1 cách kỹ lưỡng lmao nếu không bạn sẽ ăn sh*t theo đúng nghĩa đen, vì thế bạn nên chọn 1 quán sạch sẽ và có đông người địa phương đến ăn, chúc may mắn

Chúng thậm chí còn hơi nhanh bằng tiếng Anh và điều duy nhất tôi biết phải làm vào thời điểm này là trì hoãn chúng, điều này có thể gây khó chịu hơn. Hãy cho tôi thêm một vài video nữa để thử xem tôi có thể làm chúng dễ dàng hơn không.

Hướng dẫn viên nào bảo bạn đi đến chợ Hồ Thị Kỳ thì chả biết gì về ẩm thực. Saigon nhiều nơi hơn để bạn khám phá ẩm thực, vd các hàng quán bên đường, các quán gia truyền, món vùng miền như : món miền tây, món hoa, món đặc trưng SG như cơm tấm, hủ tíu....

Childhood trauma of eating beef liver. I think everyone share some kind of eating trauma regardless where you are from. If you are asian, you just have more traumas lol. Eating pig brain trauma, beef liver, bitter melons, etc the list goes on

😂 Fair point! Liver and tomatoes were my nemesis as a child. While I have eaten a ton of pig brains and bitter gourd as an adult, I can’t imagine I would have like them as a kid

If that is liver, it tastes nothing like it. I'm not the biggest fan of beef liver and know that flavour all to well. Whatever they are doing with this has made it delicious😂

@@PureDetour Sonny had a video on it a few years ago if you go through his Vietnamese videos. He was with a guide so they told him what innards he was consuming as he made his way through it.
