If you're a Toastmaster, you know that the Table Topics portion of the meeting can be one of the most challenging. You have to come up with topics that are interesting, unique, and engaging, all while keeping the flow of the meeting moving.
Here are a few tips to help you make your Table Topics more fun and unique:
- Convert topics into props
This means that instead of simply telling people what topic they will be speaking on, you will give them a prop to hold onto during their speech.
- Make them pick up a prop and they have to talk on that for one minute
- Skits
With skits, you can provide people with an image and have them speak on that image. This can be a fun and interactive way to get people involved in the discussion. Plus, it can help break the ice if people are feeling shy or uncomfortable.
- Similar to props, instead of giving people topics, show them an image and make them speak on that image
Simply choose an image that you think would make for a good discussion topic. Once you have the image, give each person a copy of it and explain that they need to come up with a 1-2 minute speech on what they see in the image.
Finally, you could try coming up with unusual or unexpected topics. This will definitely make the sessions more interesting and force the speakers to think outside the box.
