Hi @Drone Flyer..I’m in Melbourne, the other side of Australia. Nice to see another ex-Penangite on my channel. You are so close much closer to Penang. If you haven’t been back for a few years, you will find our little hometown has changed a lot, and has a lot to offer tourists. Cheers, Victor

I just wondering if you know Belanda Hu recipe? This is Penang Nyonya recipe. My side we use chicken instead of fish with aromatic fried garlic and gravy asam jawa

Hi @Karen Ooi…no I’ve not. I’ve never learned Belanda Hu from my mother. I’ve not even had it before, or seen the dish in a Nyonya restaurant that I’ve been to in Penang. Now that I’ve researched what it is, it sounds really nice but lots of prep work. Thanks for letting me know this Nyonya dish. You said it is a Penang Nyonya dish. But I’m wondering could it be a Malacca Nyonya dish? Since it is a fusion of Dutch, Malay and Chinese. For my viewers who are reading this comment, “Belanda” is a Malay word for Dutch, and “hu” is a Hokkien word for fish. So it literally means a Dutch fish dish! Cheers, Victor

Fyi, khoo kongsi is not a temple
@foodtripwithvictor2 жыл бұрын
Hi @Kong akau..you are right that it is not a "temple" as in a temple of worship for the public. But more a Hokkien Chinese clan association or Chinese clan house with Chinese deities that resemble a Chinese temple. The Khoo descendants will pay respect and prayers at certain time of the year to their ancestors just like a temple. That is why I refer to it as a "Clan temple" and our ancestors. I believe several local news have called it the Khoo Kongsi temple as well. Cheers, Victor

Ha ha brilliant, you get in free because your ancestors supported the place. I don't get in free anywhere in the UK, i'm not exactly sure why so many people want to come here. I'd rather live in south east Asia.

🤣😂…guess it always look better on the other side..especially when it doesn’t cost much..and it is very affordable to holiday and stay for months in Southeast Asia. Although I would love to spend months in Europe when I get the chance, and travel around to see and experience the different countries, food and culture.
