Another thing is i don't believe an actual cop would continue to go on with the conversation knowing that it was a kid talking back with them, they wouldn't force things on like that with kids, they would leave until the parents were home or wait until they got home to continue the conversation when the parents are home with them. that's a big indicator as well that it's not a cop, the first thing they'd do is ask for a parent.

If you're a parent it would be a great idea to invest in a ring doorbell or similar. That way when the kids are home alone they don't have to have any interactions with people at the door. Regardless if the knocker knows their home alone or not you handle the situation. Not only verbally but you're able to see if they're who they say they are, get their description, and call the authorities if need be. Its a inexpensive way to keep the kids a little bit safer.

One thing my parents taught me when I was a kid was to never open the door when someone knocked if we were home alone. My parents had their own keys, so we would know when they were home.

Listened last night on my way home from work. Couldn't comment then cuz, ya know, driving. My husband called just as I was about to start the story to tell me that in the 5 miles before our turn off, he counted 15 deer, either on the road or in the grass on the sides and for me to be careful. He was about 20 minutes ahead of me. So when I got close to where he said, I slowed down. I counted 5 in that same area and only almost hit #4 that decided to play chicken with my headlights and changed his mind at the last second. I was doing 35 thru this area where I usually drive about 60mph. Good thing he warned me. Thanks for the stories Uncle Unit! Much love from SW Louisiana!😘

My brother flew to SD to buy an old grandpa lexus car, driving home he hit a deer. I also have had to slam on my breaks once because of the same instance you had.

@@zapcodeknock4503 The last one my husband hit, it knocked the heart out of it! It was the damnedest thing. Not even a scratch on the rest of the deer but a hole in one side and its heart laying about 30 ft in front of the truck in the road! Didn't hurt the truck, it's lifted with a big ass Ranch Hand on the front...that's what hit the deer. He was good tho! We got about 8 meals out of him (for a family of 4)!😊

First story is an example of parentification. You can't expect a child lacking life experience and physical brain development to handle the situation the way we think an adult should. Teaching kids caution is great, having them being supervised is better. Don't punish kids for not knowing things; it's the adults responsibility to provide for and protect them. Adults need to do better, you should have more emotional maturity and problem solving skills than a child. This situation should have never happened as someone should have been with the kids but since they were it should have been a teachable moment. This is where safety drills need to be done. Leave a list of phone numbers on the fridge (local PD not 911), places to hide and people to go to. Off topic slightly, but I've spoken to people with kids about fire drills. They don't even do them because they think the kids won't pay attention or won't get it. Parents, it's your responsibility to do these things, kids have a right to safety. Teach kids to grab a blanket/towel or shirt to open doors, crawl to avoid smoke, the shortest way out of the home and a gathering/check in point. Even if you think they don't understand having them physically do the actions can benefit them.

Ikr? Imagine getting mad at your kid for telling you the truth. If you haven't taught your kids "If there's a police officer at the door and we're not home, don't open the door and call us right away" you literally have no ground to get mad at them for opening the door and not calling you. She should be glad the kid didn't let the man in and told her what happened as soon as she came home.

Call me a softie, but I disagree with the mom’s reaction in the first story. If it had been my child, I would have been more concerned and said “I’m really glad you are safe, but I wish you had called me or the police.”
@oncerand_directioner
@oncerand_directioner Жыл бұрын
Oh trust me, I don't think anyone here would think you're a "softie" for reacting that way, including me. That's the normal response a parent should have-not grounding like that horrible mother. Some people really shouldn't have kids if that's going to be their reaction to a situation like that
