When our ruling class tells us that "school shooting are a fact of life." I find it hard to give a shit about a CEO. you can't try desensitize me to a much more horrific event, and then expect me to clutch my pearls over the death of someone who would deny a child's anesthesia for surgery to remove lead fragments.

Really almost amuses me that the news is shocked that the younger generation has no sympathy for this guy. And we are like "Uhhh yeah, we grew up going to school, knowing there is a chance some freak with an automatic rifle might decide to walk in and kill us all. And you think one man being gunned down in broad daylight with no other casualties will make us care?"

I really hope this event spurs regular citizens to run for office in the upcoming midterms. Regular everyday people, running on a platform heavily focused on single payer healthcare, will be the ones to usher in the changes we want to see. I hope this fire doesn't die down and people capitalize on it.

I also want people to do a little more than just run for office, imo. We have stopped our advocacy at election season for too long and we need some sort of strategy to constantly advocate for change. We need to push for ballot measures to at least regulate some of the more predatory practices, protest, strike, organize pro-universal healthcare doctors and nurses into something that can oppose the American Medicial Association (they are arguably as influential as the insurance companies in opposing universal healthcare efforts than insurance companies), and anything else that effect change. New representatives are genuinely great, but not in a way that will solve that problem forever. If Trump repeals the ACA or cuts medicare/medicaid (or some of the more radical solutions his cabinet have come up with, but those are unlikely to pass Congress.) our cause gets stronger, but I want someone to try and do something to stop it. If anyone lives in a swing district or swing state with a republican then it has now become a moral imperative to try and petition them to vote no any repeals or cuts. Try to get a number of signatures higher than the number they won their seat by, and get as many people who voted for them to sign it, the threat being made is that their seats will be in danger if they vote for repeal.

What we consider to be the worst political regimes had systems that deliberately and efficiently left people out to die. Sometimes very violently but oftentimes a quieter denial of resources and we rightly point out the abuse in that. Or how people were right to rebel against it. What makes these health insurance companies so different? I also think this event has done a lot of damage to the credibility legacy media had left. Especially in a situation that should have have been a layup in sensationalizing without endorsing those actions.

My problem with medical insurance is that it’s rarely a licensed physician who’s denying your claims. It’s just some desk jockey deciding things as if they know more than your doctor.

What is legal or illegal becomes irrelevant when there are monsters going around playing with people's lives by denying them care. This might help as a popular clash against the GOP once they eventualy repeal the ACA under Trump.

All large healthcare providers are like this, I think if you're lucky you can get a smaller one that may actually do their job. I also think a lot of people get it through their place of work, and you don't get to choose the provider.

Some industries just don't work like others; some are natural monopolies, such as utilities like waternor electricity, while others tend to have bad outcomes when left to the profit motive, such as healthcare. It's literally more profitable to treat rather than cure, so no matter their intentions a well-meaning compant will lose out to an insidious one.
