Funfact: The old lady in 2:08 speaks german in the original version of the film and says: "Was passiert hier? I-Ich versteh´ nicht. Meine Familie mit diesem SCHWARZEN." Translation: "What is happening here? I- I don´t understand. My Family together with this black guy." This is maybe the strongest line in the movie by far. She looks old enough to have lived during 1933-1945 in Germany. Making her "possibly" a loyal national socialistic member of that ideology. It must be ironic for her, getting treated the same way as the jews (and many others) back then. (as a german myself I have only watched the movie in german so far, but have watched a video essay regarding this movie (I think it was from Leadhead) and noticed that that lady speaks german, which was odd, because - for me - she always talked german. I don´t know, I personally think that this line is so strong, with a little bit of interpretation, though.)

But the lack of food and resources available would force us to look elsewhere. If global trade has collapsed and the military is too busy with domestic issues to invade other nations, then how would we procure the vital resources we’d need? We would probably starve to death. Leading to mass revolts, civil war and all that lovely stuff. Japan (also as an island nation) may do a better job. But in all honesty, I don’t think any nations would last more than a few decades at most after the likes of the US, Russia and China collapse.

I don't know, I think this is pretty dependent on how large our population is at the time of isolation. If we are already look at say a halved population then we might be able to throw together enough farm land. British soil isn't amazing, but if we are willing to get disgusting, and can maintain a fishing fleet, then maybe we can get by on rationing. If we conscript everyone who isn't doing something else vital. We have more potential farm land than we realise. Biggest problem I can see is fertiliser. Overall though, we're still buggered if we can't figure out some sufficently royal dedicated cloning method.

Absolutely agreed. I will never consider the Revan novel or SWTOR part of that canon because of how badly they screw it up.

I’ve always wondered what happened to Australia and New Zealand in this universe. It seems they’d be better faired to weather a situation like the one depicted in the film.

The ending of that movie pissed me off! The cries of the baby should have resulted in a full cease-fire were both parties escorted the child to saftey before rolling credits

Average sperm rates have been observed to have halved over the past 50 years. Whilst not concerning in of itself, if the rates continue to fall exponentially there really could be a genuine fertility crisis sometime near the end of this century

Only the strong sperm will survive. The laws of nature will bring back balance to a saturated, and genetically weak gene pool. Damn...that didn't sound so socially darwinist in my head until I wrote it down.

Has anyone noticed how some of the most iconic distopian/apocalyptic movies take place in the uk. 28 days later, shaun of the dead, V for vendetta and arguably 1984. etc. Obviously a lot of the best movies take place in the USA but it really seems that the uk just works better as a dystopia. (Perhaps it's because I'm from England so it hits harder than movies that take place in America.)

Well, it's obviously because the English have far more *experience* with living in an authoritarian hellhole of a nation

The thing I'm really curious about is if the UK is the last remaining stable government and the infertility crisis is coming to a close, would there be a new era of imperial expeditions? for the sake of "restoring civilization?"
@johnwest59573 жыл бұрын
They would first get US back on its feat, they probably still dwarf UK population size plus have the military equipment etc. Then restore NATO members quickly as possible.

well the human project has the baby at the end of the movie - and they're allegedly the best scientists in the world. it ends on a high note, sure Theo died but humanity survived because of their sacrifices. I think its heavily implied that if the baby stayed there, it would only lead to humanities destruction. (as everyone was willing to kill each other over control of the baby) and honestly I love how symbolic it is that Julian and Theo had to be like the mother and father doing whats right for humanity and sacrifice it all to preserve the future - especially with their history together and losing their baby dylan, and Kee even names the first baby born since the apocalypse after him - it hits you in the heart in such a heavy way.
