Lets come to your point the marathas defeated mughals in many battles in this situation they were seen as a threat to the muslim population and soon they will revolt and ask for a separate state, if marathas conquered south then the people and local leaders start revolting against them as Kingdoms in south is based on languages As you know the Marathas itself originated by the rebellions led by Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj against the rule of the Bijapur Sultanate and later the Mughal Empire. The perfect example for this is the uk itseft the union of england,scots,irish and whales though they form an union half of its people want separate states the biggest reason behind this is their language and culture If Marathas ruled present india it have a greater chance for rebellion or a separation movement due to cultural shocks and language barriers Present India was united because the british partitioned india and pakistan based on religion majority so other independent kingdoms must decide to join with either on of them inorder to protect themself ( but kashmir decided not to take sides and the result we know whats going on there at present ! )

Actually, UK🇬🇧 don't need a strong military because it's neighbouring countries are friendly and peaceful. India🇮🇳 really needs a strong and powerful military because of its enemy countries(i.e. China🇨🇳, Pakistan🇵🇰)😔 INDIA is spending much more fund in military than in infrastructure, development, public facilities,etc. UK spent more funds in the development of the country.
