United States Marine Corps Boot Camp Training - Officer Candidate School
In order to become United States Marine Corps Officers, men and women spend a minimum of ten weeks at Officer Candidates School in Quantico, Virginia, where they are trained, evaluated and screened to ensure they possess the qualities needed to lead in the United States Armed Forces. With the United States fighting wars in both Afghanistan and Iraq, enrollment at OCS during the summer of 2009 was the second largest class size since the Vietnam War.

Do you enjoy your life as an O? I'm currently in the army and want to commission once I finish my Bachelor's degree. The Army just doesn't interest me anymore and have given the Marines a consideration. Reserve though.
@chaseandkill3756
@chaseandkill3756 4 ай бұрын
Reserve commissions are great because you can put yourself on a lot of SDA's (Special Duty Assignments) and get a lot of time with the fleet and in the active forces. My buddies who are reservists get as much as they want out of the job, some doing the bare time requirement and some who have basically been on active orders since they commissioned. O-life isn't much different, just more pay and a different job set. It's rewarding and fun. Go for it if you're interested. If you're on the fence about what you actually want to do with your life I'd highly recommend a reserve commission. Get the experience and resume and leave when you're ready...or don't, stay in and retire as a reservist if you like it. @@lj2853

@BitchesKnowAbout MuhPatriarchy They use all kinds of deceptive advertising on television, then they have recruiters visit young kids to brainwash them to join. If you read Smeadley Butler’s book War Is A Racket you’ll discover the truth as I have about the military industrial complex. The book covers who makes money from endless overseas wars, why we fight wars, and this is coming from a warrior himself. A two time congressional medal of winner. Nobody has the credentials of General Butler in congress. Simply put I criticize the military because of how we kill innocent people overseas, we occupy/ invade other countries, and more. We need to stay in our own country and stay out of other nations business. When solidiers are wounded in battle they are yesterday’s garbage to the military.

There is a train ( I think it goes all the way to DC) that was passing through one day when I was using the head at about 1900 hours. I remember thinking "I wish I was on that train right now". That was just for a moment though. I went through in 1988 and again in 1989 and about every 10 years or so I will have a nightmare where I am back there but I am old and broken down and can't do it. 76' OSO put us on the train to Quantico. We had our own rail car. Pulled into Quantico...Sgt. Instructor gets on the train and tells us we had one minute to get off his train, and 30 seconds was gone. Got on a bus and remember like it was yesterday, all the Marines in "The Ville" as we were riding to OCS were yelling that we would be sorry. We lived in wooden double decked squad bays that have long since been torn down. Scrubbed the decks with my toothbrush. Running the hill trail in full pack, then double run of the obstacle course. Best and worst time of my life. Will always remember GySgt. Copeland, and SSgt Simmons. Did my 20 years. Semper Fi.

It was most interesting to observe the contrast between enlisted training and officer training. The officer cadre were trained to lead and think while the enlisted were trained to follow and un-think; this leads to problems upon discharge back into the civilian world. The officer candidates were treated differently because they were generally more educated and could simply resign if they didn't like or cut it. Enlisted washouts were given a cheap suit, a bad discharge, and unceremoniously marched out the front gate.

Officer candidates are given the option to DOR because if you don't want to be in the Marines, you have no business leading Marines. There is also a walk of shame. When you leave, you have to walk about 200 meters over the parade deck in your civilian cloths while the other candidates who are still training watch you go.

Not that everyone is made for or will succeed in this type of environment long-term, but a short period of mandatory military service would benefit our youth and our society in so many ways. Kids these days need a heavy dose of discipline and order and quite frankly, they need to learn respect.

Volunteer is best. I did my training at a VA as a Psychiatrist (UCLA SOM). Unless we need a mass armed forces, Heinlein agreed with me. I have treated Active Duty Air Force as a civilian MD. I have worked for ICE. I also applied, at age 21, for a Medical School Armed Forces (Navy) scholarship. I was turned down, and paid off my $80k in student loans in 18 months after residency. Interestingly, my paperwork was delayed, so I didn't work at Fort Hood's Darnell Medical Center in 2008. Good thing, because Flag Officer incompetence would have gotten me killed by Major Hassan. You really can't teach the personality requirements for honor at age 18. It has to be there. And for many young people, such as myself, a National Merit Finalist in high school, my drive to succeed was there already. I got my MD at 25. I did volunteer at 21, and would have been immensely useful to the Navy or Army, as I was to ICE (NO suicides for 2 and 1/2 years at the detention facilities I was the psychiatrist for), and they messed up the paperwork, or turned me down for service. So, keep it volunteer. Try simply reducing wokeness in our public schools.

This isn’t even the tip of the iceberg, what you seen in the little mini documentary isn’t even a fraction of what you go through. They were only allowed to film certain exercises that’s pretty standard across the board. Only half make it through OCS, last I heard it was around a 40-45% acceptance rate. Just because you have a degree, doesn’t mean you’re automatically an officer in the marine corp. Half of these guys will make it, and wish everyone the best of luck when they first go to OCS. It’s not a cakewalk by any means, if you don’t have an inkling of leadership ability they will sniff that shit out very quick
