Yair Lapid, Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs of the State of Israel, addresses the general debate of the 77th Session of the General Assembly of the United Nations (New York, 20-26 September 2022).
Israeli Prime Minister Yair Lapid today (22 Sep) said Israel “will do whatever it takes” to prevent Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon.
In his address to the General Assembly’s General Debate, Lapid said, “we are not standing empty handed against those who wants to destroy us. The Jews today have a state. We have an army. We have great friendships - first and foremost with the United States. We have capabilities and we are not afraid to use them. We will do whatever it takes Iran will not get a nuclear weapon.”
“Despite all the obstacles,” the Prime Minister said, “a large majority of Israelis support the vision of the two-state solution.”
He said, “we have only one condition, that the future Palestinian state will be a peaceful one. That it will not become another terror base from which to threaten the well-being and the very existence of Israel. That we will have the ability to protect the security of all the citizens of Israel at all times.”
The Jewish people, he said, “have learned the lessons of the past,” adding, “our security is guaranteed by our military might, our economic ingenuity, our democratic resilience.”
Lapid said, “Israel seeks peace with all our neighbors, all our neighbors. We are not going anywhere. The Middle East is our home. We are here to stay forever. And we call upon every Muslim country from Saudi Arabia to Indonesia to recognize that and to come talk to us.”
Lapid became Prime Minister in July this year.
