Amouzad is only going to get better, stronger, tougher to beat. Yianni’s the guy I wanna see win a world title more than any other American wrestler! I think Yianni can “figure him out” eventually but Yianni needs to diversify his repertoire (like incorporating hand fighting, upper body technique, underhooks, etc. not just singles & high crotches). Not including the wonderful first period takedown sequence, just count how many non-commital half-shots he took in this match that bore no fruit. Amouzad loves to take advantage of that - front headlock, grab the right ankle, stack it on his left thigh, and around he goes for 2. I have a feeling we’ll see these guys battle next year in Greece & maybe in Paris ‘24. Yianni has what it takes to be world champion but he could end up losing to Amouzad multiple times if he doesn’t somehow expand his repertoire of attack (and defense). Much praise to both these guys for all they did just to make it to this very exciting final match! Yianni bested his first 4 opponents 34-0!!

In the 1st period Yianni took away the quick aggressive attacks by getting his own shots off then into slowed scrambles. In my opinion, Yianni is probably one the worlds greatest scrambling (funk) wrestlers there is. This was apparent in the 1st period. 2nd period was dominated by the Iranian wrestler by 1st always seeking his/their infamous underhook. Yianni knew he did not want to allow the Iranian wrestler to control the undehook. The Iranian wrestler turned Yianni's defense of the underhook into offense. This allowed the Iranian wrestler to immediately shoot and avoid scrambles. His explosive and fundamental shots off Yianni's defense was brilliant. No wrestler, not even this Iranian wrestler wants to get into slowed down scrambles with Yianni. In my opinion Joanna is probably the worlds best scrambling wrestler. However, that was totally taken away in the 2nd period. Many people have indicated it was the conditioning. It was not. Strategy and skill took away the mental edge in the 2nd period. In closing, what a great match. This matched showed varying tactics, endurance and skill. The Iranian and American are separating themselves from the rest of the world in wrestling. I consider myself very fortunate to witness the best wrestling the world has ever seen! Thanks to all participants!

Wrong.... SHAME on the Iranian dirt ball.......... Listen up Nadeem Khan… I could care less if you are Asian, European, African or American wrestler or wrestling fan. No one can dispute the raw truth documented on this video. The Iranian wrestler should have been disqualified for a nasty foul play!! During the 8:6 points exchange in the first period the Iranian grabbed and continued to pull John by his penis (please watch the slow motion starting at 2 minutes 25 seconds). None of the referees caught on to in during the review. The Iranian persisted on pulling John’s penis during most of the scramble. This sort of dirty foul should have anyone thrown out of the match with a suspension following from UWW. I hope that team USA will file an official complaint to the UWW against the Iranian wrestler. It is too bad that all these referees who were sorting out the points did not see it during the lengthy review of the scramble. Rewatch it yourselves people and you will see. I do have snap shot pictures from the scramble to prove it and I did send them to the team USA and UWW. Iranian wrestler truly disrespected the sport, the Iranian Wrestling Federation, the wrestlers and fans all over the world with this sort of behavior. SHAME ON HIM FOR SHAMING IRAN!!! @lasvegasloner46212 жыл бұрын
Not quite a domination LOL, but Yianni gassing as the Iranian took advantage of a slightly stronger hand fighting game to get those undercooks. You can see they are closely matched early on, and Yianni actually having an edge in close-up attacks. The Iranian was in supreme condition and able to feel where he was vulnerable and avoid it at the end of the first and throughout the second period, chipping away at Yianni. It seems more like Yianni knew and mentally tired himself wishing for another chance at re-tooling for the underhooks.. There's just not enough time, so he gets desperate and that always depletes stamina faster than the comfortable opponent. We've all been there. In the losing position, I have been baffled as to how I was getting so tired even when in great shape, but I was dejected about not stopping a few points on things I didn't figure out that minute. All downhill from thee. I've also been surprised at how easy it was to build up points on an otherwise tough opponent simply because I stunned them early on with a couple setups and takedowns to the back I executed. After that they seemed a bit flummoxed on what to do about it and I felt strong as they were always playing "catchup", therefore using too much strength defending because they can't read my mind. Once on the defense, you don't know how much power you'll need, so you keep searching for just the right amount of energy to use. That can only last so long. Some counter wrestlers get good at it, so they don't use much power in scrambling until you're exhausted starting moves you can't finish. Then they start to score ....when in the beginning of the match, they wouldn't have.

I know little about wrestling, can someone explain why that challenge took place early in the game? Who did what wrong? thanks

Yianni is a great wrestler but it seems a few elite wrestlers have figured him out. Same thing happened to him in the Olympic trials & a few other events. He needs some diversification.

How hard is it for the commentators to address Rahman by his name instead of calling him "the iranian". Seriously some americans need to stop being so arrogant and learn to how respect athletes from other countries

Can’t help but think Zain wouldn’t be bullied in the ties as Yianni was the 2nd. I also don’t think Zain makes finals this weight

Now that I finally saw eh match for the beginning, I can see it was a GREAT match and I look forward to these two meeting again. One thing I caution Iranians and others who were pleased to see Diakomihalis lose and assumed their favorite is just... "better" (an old fashioned mentality that permits all nations and is simply primitive)... Better not assume Yianni can't beat him. If I've learned anything about Mr. Diakomihalis since first watching him wrestle at N.Y. states in high school, it's that he will re-think, re-tool, and re-train so that he is more difficult to beat the next time. You will not have an easy match with him again. Not that others don't do that, it's just that he has a blend of natural and academic talent that is hard to understand and keep track of. He'll change things up and confuse you eventually. I am impressed with the Iranian; don't get me wrong. He is very, very tough. Another thing about this footage, is that it looked like the Iranian was absolutely flat on his back or a second. Nobody complained so I assume I just had a bad angle, but I was expecting a fall to be called. Finally, it reminds me I really don't like freestyle. I like all wrestling better than all other sports, but when you have rules complimenting somebody for rolling the opponent over as much as the initial opponents work to take them down, there's a problem. You can clearly see this is, like all wrestling, a derivative of combat sport. Always has been, and the more entangled, Pancration styled (and ironically foilkstyle in the young USA) is closest to a base for combat. I've said this for decades and it took MMA fans and even athletes a long time to get the message... which I still don't get. Anyway, when somebody takes an opponent down to their butt, initiating and changing so much about what's going on and the one taken down is in a disadvantage... but simply rolls the winning wrestler over with back exposed to the mat... how is that as valuable as taking the guy down? You rolled over off of HIS takedown... big deal. It should be only 1 point if that. It's ridiculous and more like a flimsy ball sport than what wrestling truly should be. If I had to fight for my food and somebody is taking me down and I roll us both over, he's still got me in a bad spot. Period. Not only that, it's so difficult to determine who initiated the roll. That's why the takedown should be 2, back exposure 1. The fact that they can lay flat on bottom and don't have to try to get away, in a derivative of a combat sport is also ridiculous.

@ lasvegasloner Obviously you nothing about Iranian wrestlers. Rahman is only 20 years old. He is the cadet world champion and the Asian champion. Next time they meet , the American will not be very lucky . He will be pinned easily

You have a bias for US wrestler which is fine since you're american. But if you talking about combat and mma and fighting greco is best you're actually standing upright like in a fight not bent over in the waist diving for legs. in a fight you dont want control someone on the ground cause you don't know who can punch you from behind.

Such a U.S bias commentary for UWW. One of the commentators keep dehumanizing Rahman, constantly referring to him as "Iranian" and yet referring to Diakomihalis every time by his actual name. How about changing the script for the sake of impartiality?

This technique is Rahman's most common technique, which unfortunately wasn't fully implemented here. He had implemented this technique many times at the level of teenagers and young adults. Of course, it's very difficult to perform this technique at the adult level.
