I've worked with both. C# is pretty fun to code with, but overall I feel like Unreal has fit my needs better. It's a little dangerous to say you can use blueprint even if you dont know how to code. It is just a visual representation of the code. You still need to know how to code to understand good practices vs bad practices.

I'd disagree unreal engine blueprints are very limited with what it can do. 1. You cannot make online multiplayer games 2. Some feature are locked away for C++ only

It's not just a visual representation and I have used blueprints and understood how to optimise my blueprints and could observe good and bad coding practices from bad just on knowledge. For example with people stacking if statements rather than using switches or better alternatives.

@@rishujunior I didn't invest too much. The laptop I'm using is basically an emergency laptop I bought when mine was breaking down and it cost me around £500. In my country I would recommend getting a laptop with a dedicated GPU, 8GB or above ram and an i5 or Ryzen 5 or higher aim for the newer generations.

Using Unity currently because the learning curve isn’t steep, the big list of assets/resources, and it’s spec requirements (I don’t have a beast of a PC). But eventually I plan to move Unreal due to the requirements I want for my next game, though that’s far off from now.

Right, also if you're solo or a small team probably none of your game will push the limits of either engine. I found development in Unity in general to be a lot faster for small teams and deliver same results as Unreal, not so much for big studios. But that's fair, Unreal was designed for AAA studios and Unity was designed for indies. Unfortunately most people are fooled by the new graphics features and don't make an informed decision based on their needs.

Unreal engine doesn't have a good documentation and they have a small asset library. Unreal engine is very complex and requires a beast of a PC to run it on. By the way unity is better. Unity have similar graphics in HDR 😎.

Blueprint system cuts your coding time by 5. For the past couple of years i was using python, lua and c#. I didnt know c++, but Blueprint looked terrible at first. After making my own macros for basic features that were missing(DoN, for/while loops with delays) and getting used to it - i will never switch back to normal coding. You can shit out enitre advanced inventory systems with a couple of structs and 3 hours of your time.

Started out with unity for mobile and low end pc’s, but then when I wanted to appeal to a wider audience I just switched to unreal for steam and the free had assets. I am happy with unreal so far. A shame that I didn’t switch earlier. I have 4 years experience with unity and know the Ins and outs, but still a shame :/.

You didn't waste your time with Unity. Starting with Unreal, you'd have probably quit game development entirely. Doing most things in Unreal takes double the time you'd do them in Unity. Also, if you're solo, Unreal will just waste your time. Indie games sell with good gameplay more than graphics, but apparently Epic's marketing team is doing a good job and most people see free AAA assets and think that Unreal is better

To be fair the new runtime fee only applies to people that arent using the free version and not using the newest versions of unity. Only issue is that they could come out and say that it now applies to every version and the free license. Unity is my favorite engine and i really dont want to have to switch if they do hit me with run time fees i will have no choice but to switch

Visual scripting is just a barrier preventing you from learning how to code. Just learn to code. Also, Unity can look as good as Unreal. The 'Unreal looks better' argument is such a noob argument, especially since very few people end up maxing out the visuals on either engine. Pick whatever engine seems best for your situation and enjoy.

If we are talking game performance Unreal is HORRIBLE, and this is coming from an Unreal dev, I've used Unity, when you make high quality stuff in Unity, it doesn't remove your computers ability to compute, in Unreal however, it does. Unreal is better though if you wanna take the easy route to making good looking graphics, there I agree. Unity is good for taking the hard way to good looking graphics... And then we get Godot... I took one look at it's UI and died. Unlike the Unity and Unreal interfaces which are quite similar(To me atleast.) Godot is just hell.

One big decider for me unfortunately is that unreal engine takes a MASSIVE quantity of space, like 200% more and thats without that code app you need to even open it. So if youre a hobbyist or newbie wanting to try game development casually and are not yet sure if you want to buy a more performing laptop with more space, you might not even be able to run unity. At least that was my reality with my old laptop

Unity lacks in ui design, asset quality, built in features, performance, stability and much more. Its an inferior engine in most aspects. The only reason to go with Unity is if you either suck at learning or already know Unity too well. Making fully 2D game? Go with godot. Making any other game than full 2D? Go with Unreal.

I love ue5. It's my favorite engine for sure, but to be fair, your comment about realistic assests and lightning aren't really true. While ue5s system are easier to implement, both engines are capable of going blow for blow in photorealic lighting, and geometry as well as physics sims. Unity is also getting it's own form of virtualized geometry and has support for various forms of raytraced lighted and virtual shadows maps (though not yet as well implemented as ue5). Additionally, unity owns Weta digital (makers of cgi effect for everything from lord of the rings to many marvel project and so on) and they're working with weta to add those various amazing digital effect they,ve pioneered into the unity engine natively. We're starting to get hints that at least some those tool are almost read to be released. It's worth keeping an eye on Unity in the near future

You can't get a job with unreal engine blueprints no matter the game quality unless you're going to games art. Where I'm from unreal engine jobs don't offer many junior roles but unity does. I'm planning on switching after pretty much using unreal for 6 years (blueprints in my own time and during education for 4 years)
