As a Twin X owner, I’ve added other devices. I separate headphone amp, a studio speaker switch, which I would not need with the x4. It has everything I would need in one box. I also have an old MOTU 8 pre I connect via ADAT when I need 8 more inputs (which is rare) so it’s nice to se full ADAT in/out on the x4.

This UA company is really setting itself up as the Apple of the audio community. If one can withstand the urge to belong, similar results can be achieved with devices that cost 1/4 of the price. Utmost respect for this marketing milestone (no sarcasm intended)

Totally, I see a lot of beginner producers going out to purchase this. Lot of rappers and such, which imo they dont need this because its just overkill imo especially if all your planning to do is vocals.

Yes, you can do wonderful things at low price points these days but people making that claim don’t understand thunderbolt latency, converter and clock specs, jitter, etc.

LOVE the fact that its thunderbolt 3. I've had my MacBook Pro (which only has Thunderbolt 3's) for several years now, and there hasn't been a desktop audio interface yet which uses Thunderbolt 3. I Need this in my life.

UA has had the smaller Arrow (with TB3) out for awhile. If the price of this one is too steep for you, that unit is $500.

First off love your channel I’m hopping u can help I have a focusrite 6i6 and am having issues guitar rig works fine for a couple of hours but when u use biasfx or Andy James plug in I get a muffled sound straight away like its clipping it’s not clear the distortion sounds muffled but it’s still showing green in preamp and gain is on 0 this gets worse the longer I’m playing the pad feature doesn’t seem to help either any suggestions was thinking new interface or add a di box or is it my settings was looking at audient d14 🙏🙏🙏

Are the preamps better in the X4 versus the Twin MKII preamps?

npinero1 maybe when comparing technical sheets, but you wont hear it. I own the MKI and there‘s no audible difference to the MKII, and the X converters arent noticeably better so don’t be fooled by their marketing. Still love UA for the preamps and plugins tho.

Does it make sense to connect a Yamaha 12 channel mixer to a Universal Audio Apollo X4 to have more inputs? Are any of the properties of the interface lost with this connection? Or, do the mixer gains the interface properties?

Yes, you can. I connect with my Yamaha mixer into my interface for my keyboards. Works great, as long as you properly gain stage your signals from the Yamaha channels to your interface. The main outputs of the mixer are plugged into the inputs 3 + 4 of my X4. My keyboards are plugged into the line inputs of my mixer. Remember, if you’re plugging into the mic inputs of your mixer, it will run through your mixer’s mic pre amps first, before getting to the interface. That doesn’t mean you can’t use a unison mic pre amps from the interface to color it up a bit. No properties of the interface are lost, but just know that is happening. This doesnt apply for line level signals going through your mixer of course. Hope that helps.

No, the two instrument inputs on the front replace the back-panel inputs 1+2 when in use.

hey Fluff, this is not relevant to the video but, my Schecter Damien with a Floyd Rose has a problem. When I fret any note on the low e string, the note barley sustains at all maybe for like 2-3 seconds and then it dies off. I am using 11-48 gauger strings in standard tuning if that helps. P.S PLS HELP LITERALLY ANYONE =(

action may be too low, pickup may be too close to the string, nut may be cut too low, ie the guitar isn't setup right. Take it to a qualified tech :)

the thing that bugs me with all the apollo stuff is the fact that it's already expensive and to really get the best use of it you have to drop more money on software from UA. i haven't seen anything from them that makes me want to drop my 5 year old presonus audiobox USB and amplitube.

I love your stuff Fluff. A little disappointed that you promote UA. They are way too expensive- 1,800 USD! Come on, the comparable Audient iD44 is $699, almost 3 times cheaper. Plus their practise of still using very outdated sharc DSP chips in all of their products while still charging a premium for it is just bad form. They are very much the Apple of the digital audio space with how much they screw the consumer. Just my opinion. Have a great day!

@@RiffsAndBeards I'm not saying there's anything wrong with you using and promoting UA gear Fluff. I'm just stating my opinion of their business practises. Lots of companies are expensive but I really feel that UAD exhibit poor value- but everybody sings their praises anyway. The Audient does have more IO and a great set of features so I don't consider it a step down from the Apollo X4. No it does not have DSP but with a powerful PC/ Mac UA's DSP is really not needed even with heavy sessions. Recording at 64 or 128 samples is real-time enough for me IMO. I just really don't like how UA gets away with massively inflated prices. That's all man :) Peace
