Yeah, it is pretty well thought out. I wish it had some the of digital I/O (USB aside) and that the power input was just another USB instead of a barrel plug. Also the knobs are not textured so they're a bit slippery. That's not a smart design decision.

@@andesneko How often are you reaching out for the knobs? When dialing in gain you set it once in 10 seconds and record with that setting over the next 2 hours. I don't think non slip knobs are really that important

Hi Clint, fantastic question! As with most smaller USB interfaces, the 48V Phantom Power is supplied to both preamps when powered on. This means it may not be safe for your ribbon microphones. However, there are some great tools out there to protect your ribbon mics. No, the inputs do not offer independent 48v phantom power on/off. It's either on for all of them or off for all of them. You can get inline phantom power blockers for the inputs you don't want it on though.

Beautiful review! Loved the examples! What I don't understand is, that it's described as a USB powered interface. But is comes with an AC adapter. Can I use this interface with full power on my PC? I'm not a fan of USB powered hardware...

Hi VedunianArt, thanks for the question! These units are able to be bus powered or powered from the included power supply. UA recommends to use the power supply in most cases. It's for any DAWs on PC, Mac and iOS. It doesn't have onboard plug-in processing like the Apollo does, only the vintage effect and the compressor. You can use the pre-amps and effects, then send the signals out at line level into another piece of equipment, like a mixer or another interface, but you still need it to be connected to a PC/Mac/iPad device to run it that way, as you have to program each output mix through software.

Is it possible to use a second pair of monitors (e.g. cube speakers) with the Volt 476P? The goal would be to mute the main studio monitors and only hear out of the cube speakers (e.g. Line 1 and Line 2). The lack of independent phantom power is already a bummer, but I think being unable to make a second set of speakers work would make or break a purchase.

The difference between the 476 and 476p is the 476p has 4 mic pre-amps (with the effect and compressor), while the 476 has two mic pre-amps and two line inputs. Apart from that the only difference is the 476p has two headphone outs, whereas the 476 has one. They are both 4 in/4 out and will work the same way.
