Agreed. A complete collection of Hammer films would be absolutely amazing. There are several great box sets of Hammer films on DVD and Blu-ray, but nothing that has their full library. It certainly wouldn't be cheap, but I would likely end up paying whatever they wanted for it.

What do you mean Hammer Film series? What is that?

Class set. I have it and I'm watching them myself throughout Oct.. I always sits down on Halloween night and watch 3 classics.. the exorcist which in my opinion is the greatest horror movie ever made and then Dracula 1958 one with Lee and Cushing.. my favourite Dracula film off them all and I would always finish the night off with a Stephen king double.. salems lot and cujo.. love them movies

All great picks. I also really enjoy Dracula (Horror of Dracula). The Classic Universal Monsters films are great, but so are the Hammer films. When it comes to movies to watch on Halloween night, I'll almost always pop in John Carpenter's original Halloween and Trick 'r Treat.

Thanks! Are the Blu Ray versions noticeably better in picture and / or sound quality compared to the DVD version of the same box set ? Tks
@discfunctionalcommentary27754 жыл бұрын
I believe they are yes. I had some of the older legacy collections on DVD that were released in the early 2000's. When I watched Dracula and Frankenstein for the first time on these Blu-rays I was definitely aware of an increase in the overall clarity of the image. This is easily the best I've ever seen these movies look.

I got some of these mainly drac Frankie and wolfman but don't have the sequels to go with them...I'm hoping this set has all the sequels included... I like to see creature from the black lagoon, return and creature walks among us... Also love to see all the mummy and invisible Man sequels,I'm hoping the invisible Man w Vincent price is on this set...I'm also hoping to know if there is any difference between this Blu Ray and the DVD? I'm hoping it looks clearer and more sharp picture wise ,guess I'll see.

Great review, my friend! I just wish the original 1925 Phantom of the Opera and Island of Lost Souls were included in this set; however, the Phantom and Island both have superb individual blu ray releases. Kino released The Phantom on blu-ray and The Criterion Collection released Island.
@discfunctionalcommentary27754 жыл бұрын
Both great films. However I think what is considered to be the Universal Classic Monsters films officially started with Dracula and Frankenstein in 1931. Though the 1925 version of Phantom of the Opera would have made for a cool bonus feature on that disc. Island of Lost Souls, on the other hand, I think was actually distributed by Paramount.

I have this collection on regular DVD, I was thinking about upgrading to Blu-ray, Do you think the picture quality would merit such an endeavor?
@discfunctionalcommentary27753 жыл бұрын
The short answer is yes. I think the picture quality has a noticeable jump from DVD to Blu-ray. Obviously the level of improvement could largely depend on your setup (player and TV etc...). If you're a big fan of these films and can find the Blu-ray set for a reasonable price, I personally would say go for it.

Hows the dvd box set?
@discfunctionalcommentary27757 ай бұрын
I believe that the equivalent DVD set contains all of the same content (just SD as opposed to HD obviously). I can't say that with complete certainty, since I only have the Blu-Ray collection, but I'd imagine that's the case. If you have the ability to play Blu-Ray and can find the set at a good price, I would certainly go for that over the DVD set.

does all the disc work good because i got creature from the black lagoon legacy collection blu ray seperate and disc keep on skiping if all the disc work good on Universal Classic Monsters: Complete 30-Film Collection [Blu-ray] should i get it
@discfunctionalcommentary27754 жыл бұрын
All of the discs in my collection work fine on my player. The discs that are included in the collection should be the same ones that were included in the individually released legacy sets. It is possible that the "Creature" disc that you have is defective. The collection is well worth the money if you're a fan of the Universal Classic Monsters and don't have many (or any) of the other sets. If you're only looking to replace the "Creature" disc though, I don't think it's necessary to buy everything for just that. Like I said, my guess is that you got a defective disc. Depending on when you purchased it, you could try returning it or possibly contacting the manufacturer for a replacement.

Have always agonised over whether to treat myself to this box set. However, two factors have mitigated against my decision to do so, and they are: 1. The annoying duplication of some films onto other discs; 2. The exorbitant price.

Good video. Can i make one constructive criticism because I like your content? please shorten the intro , its way too long
@discfunctionalcommentary27754 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the constructive criticism. The intro is something that I will probably be revisiting at some point once I get back into doing videos again more regularly. If/when I redo the intro animation, I likely will try to make it a little shorter and more to the point.
