Looking for a versatile new home improvement project? Well, it doesn't get much more versatile than the coved ceiling. In basic terms, a cove is an arc that connects the ceiling to the wall. So, you're essentially eliminating the sharp edges around the entire room. But we mentioned versatility, right? There are so many different ways you can install the cove kit that you can really create any look you want. Watch the video to find out more!

Looks nice if done correctly. Also, I would probably opt to use this on a room with 10 foot ceilings rather than standard 8 foot. I expect it would make an 8 foot ceiling room look too small.

i live in a house coved ceilings that are plaster done in the 40's. your kit will look more authentic if you leave out the texture. nothing says track home like wall texture. I wish they would just sell 6 inch radius formed drywall you put up first, then hang the field. smooth wall gives you a nice vintage look.

This is cool, definitely going to give it a shot next house I buy to flip or rent. A quick thought. Seems like with a room this big it would make life far easier to set up a molding piece at ground level and get the form started there. Sort of like using a brake for tin in a sense.

The guys, with all due respect, have uncomfortable moments in the whale: Two people are involved and laborious in the number of operations under the ceiling, even if you do not take into account the finishing trim. It is much easier to make a demountable formwork made of thin plywood and pour polyurethane foam in it. After solidification on the foam, I put the Sheenrock from the spray gun and as a result work on you Installation of polyurethane panels and sealing of joints also with mounting foam))). Tip. Use so sona tube to 'pre' radius your drywall before you start putting it up. That way you can let gravity and moisture do the work and create a more uniform radius prior to install.

Hello Wesley my mistake on saying there was cuts to the back of your drywall I see there is not.But I do see those horizontal indentations from the drywall screws.So what I'm looking for is some sort of technique or trowel of sorts to plaster over this problem I know there is a black rubber trowel out there at least here in Canada' also one might use a rubber or plastic material cut and shaped to the crowns dimensions in order to apply coats of plaster to new drywall or an old existing plaster cove. There just doesn't seem to be a "cove trowel" out there that is sufficient for this application.Was not dissing your drywall technique but rather fishing for answers. Thank you for your very informative video it is very helpful.

@pbkayakyer
@pbkayakyer 8 жыл бұрын
Not at all. The reason their product exists is not because of any material that it's made of. It's because it's ready to install. It's already been cut, shaped and sized for the application. If you want to buy PVC, cut, shape and size it to your application, go ahead, enjoy the headache that comes with it. Otherwise, pay a little more and save a lot of time and headache.

Some Americans simply have no subtleties or sophistication. This style of architecture was most prominent many years ago in very expensive homes. Homes of prominent, sophisticated wealthy individuals. This is a great product and easy for the average DIYer, but never for Joe six pack who cannot appreciate the finer things in life! Joe, install your foam crown molding. Afterward, relax whilst slurping your beer and watching football disgrace our flag.

For those who don.t know what to look for here I want to point out that if you look closely you will see the indentations running lengthwise on the drywall face caused by the cuts on the back of the drywall so they could bend it to a curve.You will notice they do not show you how to plaster over those indents rather they cover it all up with a stipple finish which is an old trick use by contractors to cover up defects or to get away with applying only two coats of plaster rather than three or four.They should have sprayed the drywall with water many times over to dampen it for bending purposes.Problem is there is no instruction out there on how to apply plaster to a cove or replaster an existing cove.
@WesleyScott
@WesleyScott 10 жыл бұрын
I guess you missed part of the video. We never tell you to cut the back of the drywall, instead we show you how to wet the back of the drywall to help it bend. Also, the stipple finish...aka Knock Down, was used to match the existing texture. If you would like to see blueboard and plaster check this guy out instagram.com/p/fNHwhvQObI/ He loves fielding & answering construction related questions via instagram "remodelingdude". Plaster is a dying art form due to its cost and level of skill needed. The majority of homes in the southern states from California to Florida are a drywall finish. I was trying to show the most common method of finishing a curved ceiling detail. I appreciate you taking the time to comment. If you would like to see a smooth finish from a drywall finish, check these pictures out www.archkit.com/cove-ceilings/

As per your instructions on mudding the curves or coves the best tool I have found to work is by getting it coted and somewhat close with a 3in blade and then come back and use a bondo spreader for the finishing as it is flexible and can be conformed to the curvature

I can see a lot of uses for this kind of pre-bent/formed framing. However it needs a trained eye (e.g. a pro designer) who understands classic proportions so the scale is correct for the room and so forth. Otherwise it screams "Weekend Warrior" LOL. THe example in this video is *way* top-heavy.

Now if you could make drywall precurved, that would be awesome. The biggest trick is to NOT CREASE THE DRYWALL during installation. For best results, having a solid backing, will reduce the creasing effect. If you crease the drywall it is almost imposable to get a round shape. +25 yrs exp and many round stuff
@sweetiepienumber1
@sweetiepienumber1 7 жыл бұрын
jeffrey thomas It looked creased when he bent it into a curve. Maybe score the back? Plus they got extra texture on the wall which will probably show as well. Good work doesn't require texture.

won't the drywall get mold from getting wet
@HBSuccess
@HBSuccess 7 жыл бұрын
Not normally. Pro drywallers routinely wet the back of sheets to bend them. And think about it - Drywall mud and latex paint are both water-based.. you are putting a tremendous amount of water on the surface of your sheetrock when you finish the joints and again when you paint it. As long as it's able to dry in a reasonable timeframe it won't mold. But that said - I *have* seen mold start in projects where there was not adequate airflow for the joint compound to dry quickly - mostly at outside corners and other 'built-up' areas, but these were jobs in southern Florida that wound up closed up tight for weeks in the high-humidity season due to job stoppage (no $$$). IF you're worried you could also probably extend that drying time by adding a little mildewcide in your sponge water.
