The narration of the play-by-play was undeniably impressive. The show's promotional tagline boasted "50 stunts in 15 minutes," which caught the attention of many. Notably, WaterWorld: A Live Sea War Spectacular continues to incorporate various stunts originally conceived for the Miami Vice Action Spectacular, including the Falling Tower and the Water Tower. One of the most unforgettable elements of the show was its walk-in music. Extensive research revealed that the music was an instrumental version of Jackson Browne's song "Lives in the Balance." The full version of this song had been used in at least one episode of the original Miami Vice TV series, and it was officially released on the "Miami Vice II" album in 1986. The show's production was carried out by Universal Television, alongside Michale Mann Productions (yes, that Michale Mann). Interestingly, while the Miami Vice show used the original full version of the track, Universal (theme park) added some orchestral elements to create the instrumental version used in the park's show. Our research also brought to light a potential legal dispute arising from Universal Studios (Tour) Hollywood's use of this track, though specific details regarding the legal dispute remained vague. Furthermore, we possess this instrumental version in our archives and are contemplating producing a video so that others can appreciate it. Its inclusion proved to be a significant game-changer, as it was seamlessly looped in a manner reminiscent of the existing WaterWorld walk-in music today using "Deacon's Speech."

Excellent information. I wouldn't have known about the music, but that's an interesting story behind it.

@@PoseidonEntertainment We might work on the walk-in music. It was so iconic for the time, as the music really set up the show. The full version with lyrics doesn’t give it justice. But you can get the rhythm behind it.

Yes, please release the walk-in music loop. Always loved that loop along with the tropical setting of the show. Do you have or know if there's a version of The Adventures of Conan: A Sword and Sorcery Spectacular show with cast audio tracks? There's a version of the soundtrack with only some of the villain Mordor's audio track. I'm hoping for the full show's narration, music and with all of the cast audio tracks.

I think the reason they've backed off the stunt shows is that they're much more expensive than a ride in general, mixed with people being quite apathetic to them after a while. You don't have a to a pay a unpopular ride an actors fee, worry about health insurance if a part of the ride breaks down, or accidentally killing someone doing a stunt. Honestly I think they've kept Animal Actors around in Florida as long as they have because it also functions as an animal acting training center for actual Hollywood productions. That and the Horror Make Up show not being that expensive in comparison to something like Poseidon's Fury. I really do surprisingly love the Bourne Stuntacular despite never caring about the films. However my favorite part is when something doesn't work, the technical director comes out and explains how certain props work and about the screen while they try to fix the problem. It's legitimately engaging and interesting to listen to, I wish they wove that into the show somehow.

@@PoseidonEntertainment It happened last year when I did Scream Early for HHN and took in the Bourne show. They actually had two delays during the show due to technical issues, but didn't say anything beyond, "Hey, kids, it's a highly sophisticated show and sometimes things go sideways." Still kinda interesting. I've seen a Waterworld stunt show video here on KZbin where one of the actors got hurt mid-show and everything stopped on a dime (the show obviously didn't continue). A little scary. The problem with Bourne is that, while the show itself is a technical marvel, it doesn't have anywhere near the level of audience love that Terminator had and never will. If it closed tomorrow, no one would shed a tear. Poseidon's Fury was more adored, as evidenced by its last days of operation.

I didn't really appreciate it until now, but it's impressive how modern stunt shows like Bourne and Waterworld have grown beyond needing an obvious "reset time" between set pieces. I love the stunt shows, they tie in the whole “studios” theme of what goes into making big action scenes. Very classy of them to have acknowledged the actors by name at the end of the show too. A stunt performer’s job is typically to disappear seamlessly so it looks like the A-lister is still the character in a dangerous situation. These productions take away a stunt performer’s anonymity for a few minutes and let an audience celebrate them for the hard work they do.

Big fan of Miami Vice here (even have the Miami Vice theme as my ring tone. Imagine my mini-panic when it started playing at 6:31). The stunt show being themed to Miami Vice seems a bit.... bizarre. Sure there were smatterings of slightly over-the-top 80s action in the TV show, but for the most part they were very good at keeping the action grounded and closer to realism (like 75% of the time I'd say.) Looking at just the stunt work in the show, I feel like it would have fit the original Rambo theme much, much better.

Dude, this show sounds awesome! I think the thing that interests me most though is when the "director" comes out to talk about the stunts for a bit. There's a different kind of immersion that's being put on now. You're not just watching some show, you're watching the production of a show. They leaned into it being Universal Studios, but then when the action is all back, you can also snap back into enjoying the show for just being a stunt show. Even if it's all fake, these guys are still doing all these things for real, most of them without safety harnesses because they need to do this one thing to then run to another spot, crash through a railing, and fall into the water; it's incredible. The magic of movies, but kind of even more real and visceral because these guys are doing 5 minute sequences nonstop everywhere and not doing it 20 seconds at a time to get the shot and move to the next camera angle. And in recent years, you have the guys at Corridor Crew making friends with all the different stunt performers working in the industry today to learn what it takes to do all this kind of stuff, but not at Universal. I said it many videos of yours ago, but part of what made Universal Studios Florida cool is that it was riding the movies, or watching a show be put on, but there was some level of behind the scenes access at some point most of the time, even if it just when you were waiting in line; you went to Islands of Adventure for deeper immersion in the actual worlds of the properties. Knowing how things happen in your movies doesn't ruin them if you still feel the emotion, and sometimes you can even have a greater appreciation for your favorite movies because of the work that goes into making them happen.
@PoseidonEntertainment Жыл бұрын
I do really miss that movie making aspect of things. I'm always seeing people parrot that extra behind-the-scenes features on DVDs resulted in waning interest in shows like these, but I completely disagree. I would love to see stuff like this back. Also, a lot of these stunts were insane. I don't think that a lot of them would be done today. A lot of them certainly look a lot more dangerous than what's happening in Bourne, even if I do think that show is fantastic.

I'm glad I did though, because it's an interesting story after all. But I had never heard of the stunt show, or would have thought Miami Vice a good property to make into a stunt show, but seeing as it's the prequel to the waterworld one it makes more sense. I didn't even watch Miami Vice when it was on, I was too young for it in its prime time days, and from the title I assumed it was a new show linked to the reboot series, not a history video. Your original thumbnail and title for this were kind of a downer, but this is swinging too far over into the clickbait aisle. It's not the sort of promotion I associate with your work.

Maybe not, but I think that bringing people into videos can be pretty difficult and this is just how the game is played. The title is not dishonest though.

I'm surprised by several facts missing from this video. One of these is during the A-Team Show, an actor was killed when he performed the Slide-For-Life stunt. This closed the show for an investigation. In the Miami Vice Stunt Show, this is why the "Director" asks if the Slide-for-life stunt person has his safety strap on and the carriage is free and clear. Several Stunt performers "Kids" now perform at the Waterworld Stunt Show.

Not true. No stunt performer was killed during an A-Team show at Universal.

Ah, the show closed for about a month because of it.

@@theincredibleworldofdrfriday The reason i know this is because I worked at Universal during this time period and specifically all the shows. It never happened.

The Miami Vice stunt show was definitely cool. But I preferred the A-Team show

Really? I watched through it and didn't think that it was particularly interesting.

@@PoseidonEntertainment in my defense, I haven’t seen either since the 80’s, and kid me was way more into The A-Team than he was Miami Vice. So it’s honestly probably just nostalgia talking
