Seriously, the whole thing was so jarring. Maybe it's because this is my first time seeing it but it's so absurd. I didn't even have a clue that there was an alternate ending to what we got so this is kind of shocking to me. Anyway, I'm glad we got the ending we did for theatrical release.

That was a different ending for sure. I like the original ending admittedly, but this one is interesting. Takes a different tone. I don't buy the fake dad thing tho - as if he wouldn't be able to tell. Also this ending shows that Ronnie and Luc were romantically involved. I had always wondered since the original ending doesn't completely show that, but either way i assumed they had fallen for one another.

This was the original ending, actually. I was called back to do video assist for the additional fight scene ending that didn't have this "Mystery" style ending. I didn't go to reshoots but I was there for the month's on location and soundstage and was at the filiming of the scenes you just watched (and all the others, maybe some 2nd unit as well). I preferred this ending but maybe because of the emotional content that was set up in scenes at the farmhouse both in and out of the final cut. Cast and crew were in tears at some of the "Family Moments", that's a vivid memory.

@@PrestonLions3 Well yes I did, I got “lucky“ because a friend of mine already worked in the movie industry for quite a while and he knew that I could rise to the occasion to do video assist when it was still a new thing back in 1990. My suggestion is that if you do get a job in the industry you do everything you can to prepare and then to do that job very well and they will call you back for more work as they did to me.

I know because I was there as a crewmember for the shooting of these scenes as well as the rest of the movie (but not the additional fight scenes which were added later on because young people in the Midwest test screenings demanded more fighting). I remember I really likeed these scenes they felt more "Hitchcock-ian" and they were actually cast members and in tears it seems leading up to this in the farmhouse, that was a lot of emotional content some of which got on screen and some of which was sadly got edited out.

That was way too much at the end; you can tell it was a rushed ending. The scientist comes out, but then the cops immediately come and the news van comes and shes live on the air? Glad they snipped this.

This could have been a rough-cut as the additional fight-scenes ending was shot months later in a "re-shoot" after screenings in the midwest demanded more fighting, less thinking (I guess). (I know because they asked me back on crew as video assist but I had other plans - then they asked me back for Stargate but same deal, couldn't do that, life would have been a bit different if I had, not necessarily better but different.)

I was on-set for the shooting of the film, not the extended fight scenes at the ending though, and there was emotional and story-line content shot in addition to this ending that movie lovers (maybe not martial arts lovers) would have appreciated.

That crappy ending would had ruined the whole movie plus we wouldn't had gotten that fight scene in the barn where he takes the shot to make it an even fight, And the catching his leg to then jump kick wouldn't had gotten that too, I couldn't imagine this fight scene being cut short van damme gets tossed around a few times then does a few kicks and it's over 🤷 They made the right decision to choose the longer fight scene with a good ending.

I expected them to repeat the beginning so the woman gets blown up by the grenade and them two killing each other in the harvester. Or more drama like Luc trying to persuade Andrew that the war is over showing him the photo trying to make him recall. This is a crumpled mess like they copied the Terminator's homework, realized it is obvious and tried to butcher it. There was a sign when Luc says he is missing memories but the movie is full of goofy nonsense like Scott being insane but aware of everything while Luc doesn't know how to eat and that he's supposed to have a dick.

Yes it was the original ending (I was there) but the reason was kids in the mid-west test screenings wanted more fighting in the final scenes...so it goes... And there were emotional set-ups in the farmhouse scenes that probably ended up on the cutting room floor as well (some cast and crew were in tears during shooting some of those indoor scenes, I had a few as well.)

Well this is a lot to digest. Pretty silly though and copies the T2 ending narration way too much, Vandamme walking around in that fedora is funny. I appreciate they wanted more story there but for this type of movie it's not really needed.
