646 Records cant compare this to the old skool hardcore / rave scene. All about the love and unity... this is ok but its that type of style that brings violence. If you think raves could never match this then look at all the old skool amnesia house / eclipse / fantazia raves 91 - 92 then you will see the meaning of rave
@Zlervo8 жыл бұрын
23lnp I remember the old school rave scene from the late 80s nothing but love. These raves of the early noughties are about as lively as they could get. Compare it to today and what do you have??
@646records57 жыл бұрын
23lnp I hear you still. For me personally, I was born 91 so this is basically the era that I grew up on & look back to before Grime came in. Gonna take your advice & look up some of the older raves. Bless up ✊

Crazy how Wiley's barely getting a look in on this set and only a year or two later he went on to pioneer a whole new genre and become the legend we know today with 100x more status and respect than practically everyone on this set

If you think a single scene could contain that many competing ambitions...then boy. Look at that stage and think there was a hundred crews other crews forming and looking for radio slots around that time. Garage was a DJ/producer based scene with a small clique of MCs who all knew each other. If you weren't 'in' the scene then you could build a reputation on radio and eventually catch a booking that would test your 'pulling power'. So Solid came through on Delight in South, HLC came through in North on Freek and PAYG came through in East on Rinse. Ayia Napa was the start of the end, they were all on a collision course. That along with the HLC/PAUG clash and the So Solid/HLC clashes..Wiley did well, but he needed that environment if you get me.

Major Ace, Maxwell D, Wiley, Mighty Moe, and Bushkin were untouchable when it came to entertaining and hyping up the crowd (plus Slimzee & Fonti). They moved garage to a different vibe and inadvertently laid the seeds for the grime scene. People mention So Solid Crew but it's Pay As U Go and HLC that were the foundation. In case anyone was wondering why they were performing wit the lights on, its because the event organizers were worried about "trouble" (around this time garage had a bad reputation due to associations with gangs, gun / knife crime etc) and had the lights on so they could monitor security and see the crowd better in case fights and so on broke out

I used to Dj garage from 98-01, played on raw mission fm, kinda ditched it just before it turned grime. And moved to house lol - got too moody. The 1st tune that started the grime movement I remember was more fire - oi, was been played in 01 summer on white label. And also Pulse x.

Absolutely bruv, my dad's pirate fm introduced the 2 step beat to sos in the mid to late 90s, then they expanded on that and spread it and then garage evolved and arguably had a massive downfall, then lethal b leveraged that and we had one of the freshest tunes of a whole gen

One of the most memorable yet violent raves of its time. If you look at the far end of the crowd you can see they are facing the other way because someone was getting beaten up or stabbed. This happened several times that night. After the bloody victim stumbled away, everyone carried on dancing like nothing happened. Thats just how it was back then. Multiple gun shots going off aswell. Still miss it though. The vibe cannot be matched today.

I went to this for the DnB, but this was one poorest organised raves I went to! Queued from midnight to 3am. Feds arrived at 2am blocked the entrance then some manz tried to rush the door. We got in at 3am as someone kicked in a side door. The rave was half empty, lights on in the garage room. Then someone got shot at 5 am so everyone fled. On the brightside we got a full refund! This rave didn't compare to the DnB raves like One Nation and Telepathy!
@fromphylliswithlove84156 жыл бұрын
I was there, I remember it getting gassed and I have vague memories of some gunshots. I remember the lights being on for the last couple hours I think. I was quite waved hanging out with my friends at the back but that's really fucked up reading it the way you put it. I would avoid a rave like that these days. But you're right, the vibe was so good, everyone skanking to some good tunes. 🙋🏼😎

East London MC's were on another level compared to North London MC's and South London MC's. The emceeing skills by Pay As U Go actually got So Solid looking at each other and thinking "Wow these guys are better than us" and there's sets on Delight FM showcasing this. South London MC's (Wandworths and Lambeth boroughs) leaned towards an American style of rapping (not emceeing), while all four boroughs of East London MC's had Jungle/DnB skills of emceeing. Case in point, East London MC's were/are better than the rest of London.
