Nice room at the Sheraton. I remember the drive to and from Disneyland many many years ago. When I lived and worked in the Valley, I would drive to Disneyland after work, just to go have dinner there. This was just before they closed the parking lot in front of Disney (yes, that was where you parked before DCA was and Downtown Disney was built over the old parking lot). And that drive on I-5 and the 101. Such memories.

So lovely to see my home city again - I've missed it living in EU. Of note, right where you got off the freeway for Universal (and just to the left of your balcony view) is the Hanna Barbara studios building - where Scooby Doo, Flintstones, Jetsons, and other cartoons were made. That Sheraton Universal is right near the intersection of two major freeways and in the 1970s/1980s, was the only tall building in the area. So you always knew you were by Universal because of it. The Wizarding World used to be Nickelodeon Studios - where you would get slimed and there was a water splash area for kids. When you are in line for the studio tram tour, you looked out at the view - it is the East San Fernando Valley - you're looking at Universal Studios (bottom of picture), Warner Brothers Studios (middle of picture) and Disney Studios, top/middle. Walt Disney owned most of what's at the base of the right hill - and the major road there is Buena Vista Street - where Buena Vista pictures name comes from. The animation studio is right at the foot of the hill and they used to let you anyone go into a large prop warehouse (ostensibily for rentals) at any time to see the props (but they stopped that in the 1990s). Also at the foot of the small hill on the right is Walt's Barn - where his home Carolwood Railway is housed after it was moved from their house. You can go there and ride Walt's original trains and see memorabilia. There's also horseback riding in the area. Also, that hill is the base of Griffith Park - and just to the right out of the picture would be where the bench was at the Carousel where Walt came up with the idea for Disneyland. Walt originally wanted Disneyland built next to the studio there in the Valley where there where there was a large field/open area at the time - but soon realized he needed more room and so went to Anaheim. Disneyland was almost built right next to Universal Studios - but it would have been a LOT smaller! At 27:50 you go past a bridge and a smoking tram car - in the 1970s-1980s, you would stop on that bridge and it would suddenly 'drop' as if simulating a collapse. Always elicited screams from people as parts of the trellis above fell into the water. It's a shame they don't do that any more. When I first started going to the Studios Tour in the 1970s, there was only the upper area - and only the tram tour. You would walk by movie props and just go on the Tram Tour through the studio. But back then, you really did often see filming.

I love Universal Hollywood. Like Disneyland, it is the original, and holds so much history. The team your may seem silly by modern standards, but it is oddly nostalgic and the highlight of my visits!

It is so funny to watch this part of your trip because my hubby and I stayed at the same hotel and went to Universal for two days last Oct.(2018) looks like the same experience. Our room at the Sheraton had the same view also. The front of the Sheraton was under construction when we were their also. Wow!

We loved the studio tour but didn't really research it and I'm not convinced my 2 yr old at the time should have been allowed on. he was terrified, I also traumatised my sen's kids taking them on forbidden journey, but that was all me lol I just didn't wanna ride by myself lol
