The first time I saw it was on a long overnight international flight and I only watched it because the precis made it sound like the best of a poor selection for in-flight entertainment. I enjoyed the acting, the scenery and the sound effects but thought it was full of "holes". Then I appeared on TV several months later and chose to watch it again primarily because of the things I liked about it, but also hoping that I'd pick up more detail and fill some of what I thought was missing - previously, I'd missed the critical connection between Jack's earlier mission and the arrival of his wife on the devastated Earth. That aspect and a few other details all fell into place and I went from liking the movie to loving it! I have since seen it a few more times, and every time, I pick up on minutia that I had previously missed. I know a lot of Sci Fi afficionados loathe the movie but I reckon it is the best Sci Fi that I have ever seen.

The production values are excellent, as well as the action. At first, the video looked like a short film from "Dust" until I realized it was an extended trailer. I need closure. Don't accuse the military of wasting money. Cruise's weapon sports an M16 barrel that appears to shoot 5.56 ammo. Like they say, "If it worked sixty years ago, it'll work for another sixty." It's in the outer realm of possibility that somebody might have said that. Also, if Tom is going to race around on a dirt bike without a helmet, he should yell, "I feel the need; THE NEED FOR SPEED!" That would have done it for me.
@mopar_dude92272 жыл бұрын
There is no way to determine the caliber of a rifle by just the flash suppressor and a small bit of a barrel. Most likely for the movie, they did use a rifle chambered in 5.56, because it is a common rifle and there are many platforms that could be modified to look futuristic. But in real life, you could determine the caliber just by what you can see in the movie. I could lay out my M4 in 5.56 next to my 6.5 Creedmoor recon and you couldn’t tell which is which. Same goes for my Mini14 in 5.56 vs my Mini in 300 Blackout. At a glance, you really can’t tell which is which.
@CramcrumBrewbringer2 жыл бұрын

That movie is a beautiful metaphor to remind us that it is better to take care of our land, our home, than to just keep running away for whatever new promise land, that exists somewhere, whether it is Mars, another country, family, city or whatsoever.

One of my personal favorite movies. Best played ona big screen and loud. Science fiction, well thought out twisty plot where the whole truth isn’t clearly made until a certain moment, and even then they leave a couple plot twists for the end. Great great storyline with well developed characters. Why the reviews on this didn’t catch this gem I don’t know, but I suspect some Tom cruise bad politics. Cruise is the bad guy and the good guy all in the same person. Some hot naked women, amazing work on graphics and sound, and a spectacular soundtrack. My favorite movies in no particular order. WALL·E Shawshank redemption Oblivion Bridge of spies Forrest Gump.

I didn't understand this movie 1st time I saw it, only after watching it 3 times. Tom Cruise always thought that humans had won the war against the alien species and that he was maintaining guard in the wasteland for the safety of serving humans refuged in huge spaceships in orbit, but it was the contrary, aliens had won the war against humans and Tom Cruise was just one of hundreds of other Tom Cruises who were cloned to act like pitbull guard dogs against the last remaining real humans hiding underground. Genius movie!! Reminds me of the movie "The Others" with Nicole Kidman.

Lol yeah even when it makes no logical sense story wise. I mean, it would be much easier to search for that drone on the ground rather than just keep using that flying thing he has been flying around in, right?

One of the best movie of sci fi in this last 20 years , and the most enlighted about ourself and the illusion we live still believing in the system . The good sci fi just talk always to refflect about the patologies and manipulations around us . Instead commercial Sci fi , as Indipendence day , just about space war games and adventure plots .

i agree, but movies DONT have to mean something to be great. the 1st Independence Day was dumb but was fantastic! nothing had really been done like it(effectswise)at the time. it was a giant, dumb, spectacle of a movie, and I LOVED every second of it.
