University launches UK’s first Islamic Finance course

Birmingham City university has launched the UK’s first Islamic Finance undergraduate course, giving students knowledge in a growing international sector. The growth of Islamic finance has been rapid at 10-12 per cent annually over the past two decades. By 2021, the total Islamic finance assets are projected to grow to $3.5 trillion.

I really don't understand how Islamic Finance is really Islamic. I thought interest is forbidden but an islamic loan looks just like a fixed interest rate loan with the interest payments labelled as profit. What would be wrong with taking out a fixed-rate mortgage?
