They have performed several kidney grafts (kidney was outside the body but subjects blood was perfusing the organ) on various brain dead persons who were organ donors (and with the permission of their family) and the grafts were not only successful, but they produced urine. Recently they did a full transplant (organ was inside the body) on a subject (brain dead) and the organ functioned just like any other transplant (perfused and produced filtrate). The experiments are always terminated after X amount of hours or days.
