Wow....mid to late 70's early AM childhood memories ...memories of hearing this music play downstairs in the living room and smelling the black coffee Dad was brewing before leaving for the Base ...those opening credits (along the music) fascinated me as a kid ....i actually had this music on a old mp3 player a few yrs ago ..also had it imported into my PS3 NHL game (for face off music)

The 'University of the Air' theme music dates from around 1968 or earlier.

Whoever put this together has a real sense of humor. You can tell that this was clearly an influence on SCTV. But to be fair to these guys they never trained to be TV hosts. They were no doubt seconded to do these shows and would have rather not gone on TV at 6 AM! Maybe an appearance on UOTA was considered the same as getting a paper published or something. At the very least I hope they made a few extra bucks for their trouble! Now the real question is: when are these coming to DVD? For all the kidding around, lots of people remember waking up to this show with its terrifying opening credits and sometimes surreal lectures.

I used to watch this as a kid ,getting up at 6 am and lovin it.My favorite was on Plate tuetonics which led to a realization about a concept known as ''Shelf Collapse'', involving the partial collapse of the Continental Shelf.Similarly i had a hallucination in 1984 while on S5 NSH whereby looking out the window of the S5 unit everything in the Halifax harbour was under water including York Redoubt.
