Hi! Hope all is well, thanks for the response! Since I am applying as a non-EU English medium student, will you please let me know the interview process in detail? The website says that the interview process is very hectic and that we need to sit for two-three (written) exam papers as well. Please be kind enough to give me a few interview tips and a few ideas on what the exam paper itself will consist of and how I could prepare for it (past paper resources etc). Since there are limited seats available for medicine students, especially for English medium, what are the chances that I could learn Dutch and then proceed with the medicine program? Would that be beneficial for me in the long run? Hoping to hear from you soon, Take care and stay safe.

I got accepted on the programme and will be starting in September 2018. There are 4 main stages that you need to be clear about. 1) The pre-application phase: During this stage you need to send in all of your official documents to the admissions committee together with a motivation letter, updated CV and detailed information about Science-based courses studied during high school. One of the entry requirements to study medicine at Groningen is that you have high school level (i.e. CIEs, IB, A-levels etc) qualifications in Chemistry, Biology, Physics and Mathematics. If you do not have a certain subject qualification, it is called a "deficiency". You would need to make up for such deficiencies by either taking and subsequently passing exams that will give you an A-level or equivalent qualification in the deficient subject, or alternatively by sitting a 3 hour exam called the James Boswell Exam at Utrecht in that subject and doing well in it. Make sure to apply for this pre-application phase much sooner than the official application deadline because you might need to keep sending documents to the admissions committee until they are satisfied with your "pre-application". It took me 3 weeks to sort this out because they kept coming back to me asking for more documents/details etc before my pre-app was finally approved. If you don't do this in time, your application will get rejected and your chances of admission will go down to zero. Around 1600 people applied this year to study medicine at Groningen. 2) Once your pre-app is approved, the next phase is to wait for further instructions from the committee. If everything went smoothly, you will be told whether or not you passed the pre-selection phase. If not, then you will get a rejection. Approximately one-third of the total applicants get rejected in the pre-application phase. If you make the first cut, then you will be given a lot of preparatory assignments to do and you will be invited to participate in "assessment day". You will get 1 month to do a lot of preparatory work, including preparing for 2 cognitive exams and 2 non-cognitive exams, all of which you will have to take on assessment day. You will also be required to prepare a detailed portfolio. 3) Assessment day will be on one of two dates; half of the applicants will be tested on one date and the other half on the other date. Make sure to get a good night sleep and have a healthy breakfast because you will need a lot of stamina to endure 6 hours of testing. Early in the morning you will need to submit your portfolio and then you will sit 4 exams, spread out through the day. When you're done, you go home. 4) About 2 months later you will receive your rank number. There were around 400 seats available this year and 1600 people applied. There are 4 different learning communities to choose from, each one comprising of a class of 100 students. Two of the four LCs are in English, so you really need to do your best to rank in the top 300 to stand a good chance of getting into an English learning community. If your rank is worse than 400, then you will get rejected. If you rank in the top 200 then you are guaranteed a place in an English learning community. If you rank between 200 and 400, then you have a chance of being admitted but it isn't guaranteed. Hope this helps and good luck with your application should you decide to apply.
