Great record. Fortunate to have seen Lloyd when he toured with Lucinda Williams at Newport Jazz Fest a few years back.

I have both the stereo and Mono OG's of Forest Flower, and while I have records at many multiples of its price, they are one of my favorite Jazz albums. You can't go wrong with either, both mastered well, sound clearn and dynamic with great imaging.. if I recall , not fake stereo.

Like you I have heard the name Charles Lloyd but that's it. Now I have heard his music (after previewing it on Apple Music lol) and its on my to get list. I am a Monterey Pop fan from way back. I have several of the artists recordings from it including the Record Store Day release several years ago. Thank you keep these coming.

Killer video Tim! Keep the Jazz coming! Also FYI; another fun Chico Hamilton rabbit hole starts with “The Dealer”; featuring a young Larry Coryell on Guitar. PS; was able to pick up my own copy of Tonight’s the night (OG, Black label with all inserts at Noble records auction today:)

Very nice! Dylan always seems to pull in fantastic stuff.

I had never heard of him, nice find Tim! BTW, I know you have a lot of comments, but I had mentioned on your last video about how I personally like the solos, whether in this case it is a sax or if it's guitar. If you check out his sax playing in the song Sunrise right about at the 4:00 mark to about 4:20, you will hear a good example of what I mean. The way he 'Dances' around the melody in a free flowing way. I really like that. Cannonball Adderley also plays like that, as well as the magnificent Joe Farrell, and my very favourite Eddie Harris. I am rather particular about the lead styles that I like, but that little 20 second snippet or so is a great example. It was a special privilege that I got to see both Joe Farrell and Eddie Harris live.

Hi...don't worry, I read and love all of your comments and opinions! Great take on "Sunrise" - the Gabor Szabo solos on the original cut of Forest Flower are really sublime - his parts were pretty much taken up by Jarrett on the Berkeley take. I was going to go into this aspect a bit more during the vid but I kind of speak off the cuff and sometimes....I get sidetracked and forget my train of thought. Anyway...totally agree - Lloyd is a great player with tons of nuance and then can really "blow" when the piece seems to ask for it.

@@UniversityofvinylHey, thanks for the nice reply Tim, appreciate you taking the time to do that. *PLEASE* do keep your 'Speaking off the cuff' style, it is totally enjoyable and engaging, I wouldn't have it any other way Bro! Actually, I was quite surprised because this album is quite progressive and at times a bit 'Out there', so that is great that you enjoyed it. You probably would like some of the more 'Traditional' styles then, or at least some of ones that are a tad tamer. If you get a chance to hear Eddie Harris' 'Is It In' 2-LP album (1972?) out of all the Jazz that I have that is one of my very favourites. Eddie has a style what I call 'Street Jazz' It always has a nice groove, but he can really get 'Out There' too. He has a really nice grasp I feel on composition which I find quite engaging, even far more than most of the 'Classic' Jazz albums. He just has his own kind of Groovy style which I really like. He also invented an electric mouthpiece for his sax which has a unique style - he also at times almost 'Sings' through his sax. Truly unique. It was awesome seeing him live down here in San Diego about 30 years ago. He was getting 'up there' in age but still played a great show at a little intimate upper lounge room at the top of a nice hotel there. I got to tell him that I was a great fan and that I had many of his albums. He smiled graciously, but I bet he was thinking, 'Who is this pale-faced Honky...?' I had a 2nd copy of the 1st US pressing, but I sent a lot of my duplicates to James Fazzio (Aoxomoxoa) or I would have sent it to you (I think you would have appreciated it better 😊) I found the 2nd copy fairly recently at the only *ONE* bloody record store really near me 🙄 It was in lovely shape and I believe it was less than $10. I would *MOST HIGHLY* recommend you grabbing that one if you get a chance, it truly has a most engaging style which I'm sure you would like. BTW, I don't know if you supply a shipping address anywhere here on your site (or an e'mail address to contact you and get one) but if I happen to stumble across any good duplicates, I would be happy to send some to you (least I can do for all the great videos and information that you work so hard to provide us)

Loving the jazz vids Tim! I’m a George Benson (his real jazz) fan. Have 12 albums. Maybe check some of his out. Also I know you love Steely Dan, lots of jazzy bits in their work!
