Unlawfully Parking in a Cul-de-Sac

It is unlawful to pull straight to the curb in a cul de sac per Virginia code
§ 46.2-889. Location of parked vehicles. "No vehicle shall be stopped except close to and parallel to the right edge of the curb or roadway, except that a vehicle may be stopped close to and parallel to the left curb or edge of the roadway on one-way streets or may be parked at an angle where permitted by the Commonwealth Transportation Board, the Department, or local authorities with respect to highways under their jurisdiction." If this was an emergency this delay of having to back up could be costly.

Well, let's have PSAs on all the things people don't seem to have learned. Like parking their shopping carts in the middle of the aisle in a store. (That's a really BIG cul-de-sac, BTW)

I see why its illegal but come on you shouldn't be driving a fire truck if you need a spotter to back up in a wide open area like that lol

You're required to have a spotter any time the vehicle is backing up, not only because of department SOGs but also insurance reasons. It's been that way for the last 20+ years. And especially in a video being released to the public, are you saying they should violate SOGs and then put it online? Just curious, how long have you been a firefighter?

@@RT-qd8yl Never been a firefighter, but I still think you should be able to back up without a spotter in a wide open area like that. Whats next commercial drivers having to carry a spotter with them so they can back up to the dock? That's a lot harder than this.

@@redtra236 I guarantee he can back up just fine. But it's not about what you can or can't do. It's what the guidelines and codes dictate. Is it okay for you to blow through a red light if you think nobody's around? If you have that much of a problem with it, take your campaign public, go to the news, and lobby to have things changed. Or sit and whine some more. 🙂

@@RT-qd8yl I wasn't aware of the regulation I admit, but I think common sense should be used and that it shouldn't be a total ban on backing with no spotter.

@@redtra236If people knew when to use common sense, rules would be unnecessary. Rules exist because some people are idiots. Rules must be followed consistently or they are meaningless.
