Why does he buy units and hunt for his desired unit in roll? Does that affect your chance of getting what unit you want

Yes. There are a limited number of champions in the pool. If you're looking for a particular champion, say a 4-cost Tahm Kench, you'll be more likely to find it if you buy other 4-costs before rolling for it. I don't know why he was randomly buying 1 and 2 costs. Because they're in his champ planner and thus are highlighted I think he was just auto-pilot buying them.
