Welcome to Urban Gardening with Gray! In today's video, we are building a tower of mint to add a fragrant herb tower to our container garden on our balcony. Mint is a fantastic herb that's easy to grow and smells incredible. But before you plant it, you need to know that mint can be quite invasive in a garden if not properly contained.
Mint spreads quickly through underground rhizomes and can easily take over a garden bed or lawn if left unchecked. Some gardeners consider mint to be a weed because of its invasive nature. But don't worry, there are a few ways to control the spread of mint in your garden.
Firstly, it's recommended to plant mint in a container or a raised bed to prevent its roots from spreading too far. Alternatively, you can plant mint in a designated area of your garden and surround it with a barrier like a plastic or metal edging material that extends at least 6 inches into the ground to prevent the mint from spreading beyond its designated area.
Regular pruning and harvesting of mint can also help to keep it from becoming too invasive. Additionally, it's important to remove any runners or shoots that appear outside of the designated area immediately to prevent the plant from spreading further.
