Tesla KZbinrs, a larger size magnet usually means the speaker is less efficient and requires more power. The small magnets on the stock speakers were intentional with the speakers being ultra efficient and requiring less power. While the aftermarket two-way mids/highs will improve those frequencies and clarity, you are also most likely losing mid bass in the doors with the aftermarket. What are the wattage requirements of the aftermarket speakers? Maybe I'm wrong and the aftermarket speakers are also ultra efficient. Other than that well done video.

Thanks for the video. It is well done and very informative. I just purchased a Model 3 and have been watching videos to get ideas before I tackle this myself. I also happen to be a veteran loudspeaker engineer and just want to point out that you made too much of magnet size and weight when describing the original speakers. The Tesla speakers use Neodymium (NeFeB)magnets to save weight. Weight is the enemy of vehicle performance and range. The aftermarket speakers use Strontium Ferrite. The NeFeB material is capable of roughly 5-10X the strength of the Ferrite magnets, depending on the specific material grades used. It is entirely conceivable that the stock speakers may actually have stronger magnets than the heavy aftermarket ones. The NeFeB material is also considerably more expensive. It is used to save weight without compromising performance, so they should not be knocked for having "small" magnets. This is not to say that the aftermarket speakers aren't better, but if they are it's for reasons that are not due to magnet weight. Perhaps cone material, suspension linearity and other things are improved, but the magnets size most likely isn't an advantage.

The stock sound is already impressive compared to previous cars I’ve owned. But curious how much better the upgrade are. Install seems fairly doable for a noob like me. So the stock amp doesn’t need to be changed? Any footage on how to remove the box that holds the sub?

Hey Dave I liked your video. My question for you is I have just the basic 2023 Model 3. I found out after taking delivery that Tesla had a premium package. So I also found out that there are speakers installed that are not enabled. That’s why so many are installing these aftermarket wiring harness’s to activate those already installed speakers. I guess Tesla cut costs so they didn’t hook them up. My question to you is will these Alpine upgrade speakers work on my basic system? I’m thinking that I don’t have a subwoofer anyway so I would just be interested in the door speakers and the 3 dash speakers.

I even tried to get an appointment with the Tesla service department and they said that they couldn't help me out and that I should have ordered it before they put the car together. Question : How good is the sound upgrade without the Sub and tweeters? I have the RWD model 3 so theres no sub and associated wiring and also the door tweeters are not activated. I noticed a difference but I do have added power and can control the frequencies via 2 DSP/AMP. You may noticed it being clearer. The sub really makes a difference. You can add an aftermarket subwoofer from NVX.

I keep wondering how much of a difference they actually make. Can the factory amps really push the new speakers as needed? I had seen somewhere that the magnets used on the factory speakers is a different material and therefore the size cannot be compared. Not sure the truth there.

They are the same as the front dash speakers. I'm still trying to figure out what speakers I want to install on the rear deck. Looking at putting 6.5" coax speakers. This is not something I have the skill to do myself.

From memory the factory woofer is 150rms. The Alpine is rated at 300 minimum, and generally S type and R type are also low in sensitivity. It mat not last to long 😬

The factory are 3.5 and the replacements are 3. The factory front door speakers are 8” and the replacements are 6”. Loosing a lot of cone area in my opinion. Plus the magnet comparison is not valid because Tesla uses neodymium magnets versus iron ferrite so their smaller size packs a much bigger punch than you would think. Orella acoustics takes a much better approach. They replace the front dash speakers with better ones, still the same size as stock. They replace the front center speaker with a coaxial one to get back the tweeter that Tesla deleted for some reason. They also replace the a pillar tweeters and the rear door speakers with coaxial speakers. They also replace the sub with one that has its own 300w amp versus the factory 160w. I just don’t like the approach these guys used here downsizing all the cones.

RWD doesn't have a subwoofer and they don't enable all the existing speakers. Hansshow and other vendors offer ways to enable those speakers. You can add a subwoofer to your system. NVX has a subwoofer package that is much better than the stock subwoofer. Check those out. I added one to my Long Range and then upgraded to an enclosed 12" subwoofer using the same amp. I actually installed the Hansshow kit with the surround speakers in the back to my 2021 standard range, not knowing your model @timo pre-2020 models already have the backend speakers installed (just not activated), it could be a simple and cheap solution to start with, and later you would upgrade the speakers 🔊 😊

What about the amplifier? No upgrade there? How can the stock amp that’s meant to drive those flimsy paper speakers power those heavy duty carbon speakers 🔊???? Should’ve sprayed the inside and out of the sun box in a ton of rubberized under coating and put 1.3 lbs of poly fill in the box to make the speaker think it was in a slightly bigger box and making it more dense.

I have other stereo upgrades in my system. I also have 2 DSP's to tailor each channel as well a 12" subwoofer enclosure from Down4Sound running a NVX 500W RMS mono amp. Many more upgrades to be added such as rear speakers and amps to drive the new speakers. thanks for watching

if you have a RWD then you don't have a subwoofer. You can add one. NVX has one with an amp and a 10" subwoofer. I have this installed as well. Works great.

nvx subwoofer comes with an amp with a dial to adjust the amount of bass. works great. I have one and also added a 12" enclosed ported sub. Love my bass
