Wow, it really worked! I'm impressed. I must say though, I was waiting for that cable to snap or something else to "sproing" on you, but it actually did the job!

I'm really surprised myself. Nothing broke which is even better. I was using a shovel to lift the corner of it. I thought the fiberglass shovel was going to break. It was bending really bad. If my brother hadn't stepped on the other side of the trailer it might have rolled. Way to go harbor freight!! Thanks for watching!!

You should make the sides of the trailer removable to offload stuff easier!

Jon A. is correct. What is commonly known as Outriggers would be awesome. They would be helpful to stabilize the load while loading and unloading. They're commonly used on Heavy equipment such as a Backhoe or Trackhoe. You may have also seen stabilizing jacks on Campers or RVs when parked.
@Lanninglongarmmowing8 жыл бұрын
We have a jack near the crane. You just can't see it from the angle the video is shot. That Rock, even with the jack down was picking up the other side of the trailer. lol. Thanks for watching and commenting!!

Nice job guys. I'm picking up that exact crane for my F250 tomorrow. I plan on lifting fairly heavy so will have to figure out how to reinforce it at the frame. Do you find the unit to be fairly stable ?
@lonewolf21567 жыл бұрын
North Q i would use a thick steel plate
@Lanninglongarmmowing7 жыл бұрын
North Q Thank you. It's a great crane. Been very happy with it so far. I also recommend using a nice thick plate of steel. The pickup truck crane is very stable. Harbor freight has cheapened the crane out some from this model.

I can't believe the trailer didn't tip!
@Lanninglongarmmowing7 жыл бұрын
allenslansky Haha. Yeah me too. That trailer has come in so handy for so many things.

The trailer didn't tip, the shoe string cable didn't pop and cut one of them in half etc etc. That was 4 years ago. the kid is probably dead now!

Nope still going strong. Lol. I snapped the cable before though. I dropped a huge spruce log on the side of the trailer and no damage happened.

I see a possible safety violation; does the right side have an outrigger to pevent that rock from falling onto its side? Whenever you have a heavy object you should have an outrigger on the same side as the lifting mechanism to prevent whatevrer is being lifted from tipping over ...

That's exactly the setup I'm going to be doing on the trailer I am getting -I have the crane waiting on the trailer - My question to you is how did you beef up the connection point for the crane to the trailer? Might we get a video of how you did that?
@Lanninglongarmmowing9 жыл бұрын
To beef up the trailer I made a base plate that is roughly 3/4 of an inch thick. It's 3 plates welded together to get 3/4 of an inch thick. I then welded the big plate to the corner of the trailer. After that I welded the piece of pipe onto the side of the trailer for the jack. It works well. The trailer is double wall thick also.
@JonAlmada9 жыл бұрын
I'll do the same - will have to have it done by a pro since I don't have a welding system or knowledge, but I know what to ask for now - Appreciate your guidance!
@Lanninglongarmmowing9 жыл бұрын
Jon Almada No problem. You should get a little flux core welder from harbor freight. It's been the best $100 I've ever spent. I built the mount so strong the crane will lift up the other side of the trailer from picking up something too heavy. Lol.

Put a thick board under both ends of the Rock before you let it completely down. For safety make sure you don't put your hand underneath the boards and rock while moving them or adjusting placement. Always handle the boards from the sides and use longer boards than the size of the Rock. This allows you to safely remove the chain and prevents the Rock from rolling or moving away. The boards will rot and the Rock will stay there. Always work with someone else so you have help in case of emergency. A few years ago, I had a trailer slip off a Jack while putting a board underneath. my fingers got caught between the framework and the board. I was sadly working alone. I was fortunate enough to get the Jack to lift the load, using only one hand. otherwise I would have been stuck there until someone found me. Part of my mistake was the way I handled the boards. Be Safe!
@Lanninglongarmmowing8 жыл бұрын
videotracx I never thought about using boards to keep the rock up off the ground so I could get the chain out. That's a really good idea. Working with someone else is a good idea for sure. Sorry to hear you got your hand caught. That sounds traumatic and painful.

HillbillyMatt ExtremeDIY Yeah we could sell them but they're probably from the property. They're worth a pretty penny I'm sure. I don't think we have to worry about anyone stealing them though. LOL.
@matthewszostek18197 жыл бұрын
I would say probs not but that's how my uncle built a very large very exquisite stone fireplace. I remember it when it came in one stolen truck load at a time of rocks about the size of the one in this video.
@Lanninglongarmmowing7 жыл бұрын
HillbillyMatt ExtremeDIY Oh wow. That fireplace sounds pretty cool. Landscape businesses would probably charge quite a bit for a large stone. Where did your uncle get the stones from? Stones aren't that easy to steal. Lol.
