So I've been playing guitar for about 6 years and I have the skill but I was never able to understand the theory behind shapes and patterns and I always was missing the connection with the fretboard but your video just popped up in my recommended and it is an absolute blessing! The concept of the intervals and being able to build the scale just unlocked it for me and now I can be able to build chords and triads from anywhere when I'm soloing. Just earned yourself a new sub and keep doing what your doing! Underrated.

Eyyy thanks dude, glad you found it useful. Wish someone taught me this years ago cause it just gave me so much momentum! Cheers for the sub!💪🏾

We'll my young brother. This was quite a awesome lesson. I've been playing about one year now. I've gone down the path you mentioned with the scales, and caged system etc., you had me laughing. I haven't tackled the intervals yet. However this lesson brought it all of that into focus. I wouldn't just dis what I've learned because it has given me another perspective and understanding of the fret board. However with this I think I will get me a freer handling of it. Love your joy and passion of playing and teaching. PS. Great opening lick. I'll looking forward to playing like that. Thanks.

I wish more videos attempted to show this. I think its worth saying that the tunimg is in 4ths except B, so if you can do the math quickly you can calculate where stuff is. This video focuses on movement from low to high. But you can make all the inverse and backwards stuff, like saying root is on high e and working backwards. So then the spacing B to e is a 4th, in reverse e to B is a 5th. Octave in western has 12 notes. 5th is 7 semitones and 4th is 5. 7+5 =12. So the distance forward and back ward between any two notes must sum to 12 (assume the same fret for simplicity here). D to G is a 3rd so 4 semitone and G to D is then a minor 6th (8 semitones). Taking that knowledge and knowing these scale patterns, if ypu know the patterns that describe chords, you no longer need a chord book because you can just make them. But you need some more theory on why slash chords work etc and why you move between certain types of chords based on their members and the scales of the members. Playing the scale and then makimg the possible chpords at a position that are part of the scale is a good exercise. 1 play major, 2 minor, 3 minor , 4 major, 5 dominant(maj with b7) , 6 minor, 7 diminished (flat 3 5 n double flat 7). Id pick C to start (no sharps n flats so easy to remember)and play the scale forwards and backwards up and down the strongs (eg starting from the first fret or open alomg the string that is part of the scale, playing down the strimg as here, the up and down refers to going a strimg up or down each time you play the scale alomg a string. Playimg to the octave on a strimg from relative starting point is sufficient)

Just let them memorize c major scale since it has no sharps, once they memorize the pattern it can be moved to any key

All of what you have said is great. But they should first learn where G notes are at (for a reference point) on the fretboard and then work from there. It ain't no way around it. Most people have a hard time remembering the name of the strings the first couple years. I thought you were about to teach how to connect the chords like you were in the beginning but you went off on a tangent about individual notes.
