I just had this tune loaded into my 4Runner. I went with the "mild" throttle and it is exactly what I wanted. The shift points are much better, with less gear hunting, and fewer overall downshifts. No downside I have noticed yet and it's been a couple of weeks.

I own a 2007 yota fj cruiser with 241k and at that mileage I installed a Magnuson supercharger to help because my yota fat meaning heavy I had a pro comp 6in lift installed, 35x12.50x18 Mickey Thompson Baja boss tires , expedition one dual swing out for spate tire , 2 Jerry can holder , a expedition one high lift jack mount , arb front bumper warn winch , front runner roof rack with arb roof top tent , I add a cascadia solar panel on hood to help keep battery charged, mine a 6 speed also means all wheel drive , I also have the oddessy dual battery that for a tj jeep from quadtrac but fit good easy installation, a arb snorkel, arb awning, orange boxx rear fold down table and molle panel for passenger dash that's wear I mounted my ham radio and cb radio, I bought clazzio custom seat covers and had a company make me a custom race steering wheel, , spod to control lights , front runner dual drawers system, next I plan to re gear to 488 I will never sell mine due to styling and motor that keeps going , I am lucky enough to own many vehicles none bought new for me new doesn't mean better just means payments that keeps you working not enjoying life , I also have a h3t hummer truck built out and a land rover lr3 I only paid 1100.00 off of copart clean title that's a overland build in progress, I would love to add a land rover defender that's years down the road when they become cheap like the lr3/ lr4 has become if I was you keep it I think you might regret it overlanding not about having expensive build but being free to roam freely without commitment the reason I bought a h3t hummer truck because I didn't want a jeep gladiator that cost 50k and up plus another 25k building it mine has the 5.3 v8 very rare vehicle only made 400 v8 alpha only thing that sucks wad when the hummer h3t died so did accessories I do have a road armor bed rack that is made for jeep gladiator but it works perfectly on my 5 foot bed I had to buy bracket and make it work , maybe u changed your mind keep yota they are one of a kind build

I'm in Denver and have a 2011 FJ. I was looking for information on tuning back when I got the truck 6 years ago, and I couldn't find anything. I feel like the FJs are having a bit of a renaissance with all the new parts, upgrades, and general mods available! Now if I can only find a heated steering wheel!

I don't know if you have done this but swapping out your MAF sensor can make a big difference. It does degrade over time and will not necessary throw a code. Cleaning it ony goes so far. At over 200k on my 2008, I installed a new MAF and it made a big difference. Issues with throttle respose went away and its a lot more consistent. Better on hills with a lot less gear searching. 😢

How does tuning affect the overall reliability of the 4.0L? If you can make more RELIABLE performance, why didn't Toyota do that from the factory? I'm not trying to be an ahole, I'm seriously asking. I want real answers.

I drove it without regearing for a long time on 33s. When I swapped the axle I went for 4.56 though and it made a pretty big difference. Combined with the tune now though, it’s MUCH better. We are driving to Flagstaff right this second and it’s such a better highway vehicle after the tune.

Dyno time adds a LOT to the cost. If you have the time and money, it's a great option. The tune in this video adds some new life to the vehicle without breaking the bank. There's also a Custom option with several rounds of street driving, logging data, and then making adjustments each round. It's no full Dyno tune, but again, Dyno tuning is EXPENSIVE by comparison.

What about emissions testing?
@IndependenceOverland Жыл бұрын
Not sure on that. I don’t have to pass them where I’m at so I didn’t even think about it or else I would have asked. People in California get tuned some I’m willing to bet it doesn’t effect it much.
@lsmith0201 Жыл бұрын
So far, no vehicles have failed emissions with the Overland Torque Tune (OTT), and there are a ton of tuned vehicles in California. It's not technically CARB compliant, but no one has failed testing, and no testing location has detected the tune yet.

So this is more of a generic tune from other vehicles loaded onto the FJ ECU yeah? Have you considered doing a Dyno tune for the FJ? A dyno tune would enhance and optimise the engine in real-time factoring in the vehicle weight, tyres, etc... Also, in terms of the speedometer and odometer being out due to larger diameter tyres, have a look at Hypertech Speedometer Calibrator or similar products which is a module to correct speedometer and odometer. However, you have done over 225,000 miles (362,100 plus kilometres -- c'mon America embrace the metric system :-) ) so why bother now?? Cheers from Downunder.
@IndependenceOverland Жыл бұрын
I decided to embrace it just to get some power back, and because I wanted to modify it a little more. I know a full dyno tune is the ultimate way to go, but I’m hours away from a service like that. The reason I did it after so many miles is the fact that I didn’t know they could be tuned so easily honestly. I’ll be driving it for a bit longer as my adventure truck, and with all of these mountains around me anything will help. Give your troopy a hug for me!

@@IndependenceOverland Fair enough mate, totally understand as the old girl is heavy as and you need a little extra huff and puff to get her going... I'm not too familiar with FJs --- they're like crazy expensive here in Australia, like most Cruisers post-COVID and delays with vehicle builds --- I do like the concept of the tune you have done though. I guess you don't want to go too crazy spending coin on the FJ if you are waiting for a new rig... My Troopy engine is still stock, just exhaust upgrade, and still not too crazy heavy, but there will be a time when I will upgrade turbo, intercooler and clutch and really get some power/torque out of the rig, but that is years away. She's undertuned and reliable, just the way I like it for now... I completed a rear differential correction and GVM upgrade last year - running on Kings Shocks and Terrain Tamer parabolic rear springs - handles like a dream.. I'll go give the Troopy a big hug for you now mate 🙂
