Session on 'Advaita Vedanta for a Fulfilling Life' was conducted during the International Conference on Contribution of Advaita Vedanta to Humanity on 19th November 2015.
Chairperson: Swami Atmapriyananda, Vice Chancellor of Ramakrishna Mission Vivekananda University
Speaker: Dr. K. Aravinda Rao, Former Director of General Police, Hyderabad.
Advaita philosophy provides a unique vision and understanding of one's Self. Sukla Yajurveda, in its opening mantra says "Om Purnamada Purnamidam- What we call Brahman is full and what we call Self is also full." The Self is not apart from Brahman, nothing is apart from Brahman. This understanding leads to disappearance of discord and a harmonious existence of all beings.
The Advaitic Vision is a gradual process of maturing. The Vedas say that the maturing and dropping away from the bondage of Karma is like falling off a ripe fruit from the stem of the creeper.
The four-fold Human goals (Dharma, Artha, Kama, Moksha) become meaningful when blended with the Advaitic vision. Also, human values, tradition and relationships grow to an enlightened level with the Advaitic Vision is a nice blend of philosophy and religion.
Such a vision is a formula for universal peace and it goes beyond the boundaries of religion and nationality. It is an all inclusive vision.

What a great transformation. Great IPS officer transformed to great scholar of Hindu Religion. It is in no way less than the transformation of Arabindo ghosh to Swami Aravindhudu, founder of Aurovilli ashram, Puducherry (earlier called as Pondicherry).

Adwitham. Consciousness as we are in essence there is no subject or object. When the subject itself is illusionary that which appears to the subject is also illusionary. Meaning there is nothing but Consciousness.

So, Love everyone and everything as you love yourself since you have an understanding that everyone and everything is an extension of yourself. Feel it! No, Be it ( Edit)

Infinite does not take away the existence of finite. There is no such thing as finite existing outside of infinite, etc. Certainly no one exists without Brahman. That does not mean Brahman has to be same as all else. Surel we say Brahman is everything and that statement is not to be taken literally. Padma purANa explains this in a beautiful way tvadadhInaM yataH sarvamataH sarvo bhavAniti | vadanti munayaH sarve na tu sarvasvarUpataH To understand this simple concept, one does not have to go through any dry, tough and hair-splitting logic of jahallakShaNa, ajahallakShaNa, etc. People tried to use these high level logical or epistemological terms to prove the most impossible identity of infinite, all-independent, all-pervading and sarvAntaryAmi Brahman and finite, ever-dependent, localized and very limited Jivatman. Trying to steal the infinite attributes of Paramatman is the real Atmaghnatva and can be called a criminal outlook. If we accept that Such Omnipotent Brahman being the constantly vigilant policeman, we do not dare to snatch away His attributes.

Where is Advaita? Does one have to make the wrong conclusion to be united? Is unitedness not possible with correct understanding? While speaking about Kenopanishad and such a simple answer "Eye of the eye", "Ear of the ear" and "Mind of the mind" and the such all-powerful AntaryAmin, who is also "jIva of the jIva", how can one commit the serious blunder of equating the "Eye of the eye" with the eye, "Ear of the ear" with the ear, "Mind of the mind" with the mind, "jIva of the jIva" with the Jiva? The same kind of blunder can be seen in the following - mano buddhyahaMkaara-chittaani naaham na cha shrotra-jihve na cha ghraaNa-netre na cha vyoma-bhUmirna tejo na vaayuH chidaananda rUpaH shivo.ahaM shivo.aham 1 I am not the mind, the intellect, the ego or the memory, I am not the ears, the skin, the nose or the eyes, I am not space, not earth, not fire, water or wind, I am the form of consciousness and bliss, "I am the eternal Shiva..." The first four lines can be told by the Jiva and also Shiva. So, the blunder was avoided in those four lines, but the blunder is made in the last line. The last line can be told by Shiva, but not Jiva. Shiva will say "I am not the alpa Jiva" and the alpa Jiva will say "I am not the sarvAntaryAmi Shiva". Same thing with the other five in the Shatka.

Rao sir is knowledgeable. However I feel that the way he constructs speech needs improvement. Instead of mixing so many topics in a single speech if he slowly builds up a single topic audience will receive better. Maybe he can think of q and a sessions
