Bonjour Géraud!! Thank you so much for explaining this very very complicated concept. We have been scouting the internet for months and months trying to understand what makes someone a "Tax Resident" in France, but could not find anyone who would explain it with so much detail and accuracy. Keep up the great work. Please make some videos about Americans who want to retire in France. Merci!!

Can you make a video regarding taxation for American digital nomads who want to live in France?

Bonjour Geraud. Great video. As pertains to the 183 day rule, do the days that "count" against the 183 have to be in France itself, or does tome in all of the Schengen/EU count against the 183 limit as well? In other words if I spent 14 days in Germany, does the French 183 day residency clock stop while I am outside of French territory even if within Schengen/EU? Merci bien! (I am a US citizen BTW).

Thanks for the comment! Only days spent in France count (but be careful about the other rules to determine the tax residency!)

@@frenchtaxonline Thank you so much for the quick response. do the day of arrival in France and the day of departure from France count as well? -- I am assuming they do count.

Thanks for this video. Does this rule also apply if I buy a house in France and I only live in the house for 6 months in a year?

Hello Esther, it would depend whether you have most of your personal and economic strings in france or in the UK - we have a simulator here if needed : www.frenchtaxonline.com/capital-gain-tax/french-tax-resident-simulator/

@French Tax Online - Hi, would an american retiree have to pay taxes on capital gains earned in the U.S as a retiree/expat living in France ? As you may or may not know, Ameircans don;t have to pay any capital gains tax on the first 40 thousand of Capital gains. If capital gains are their only source of income (80k For couples).Will this apply in France because of the dual tax treaty ?
@frenchtaxonline10 ай бұрын
Hello @sunmand6136, it would depend on the type of capital gain ! For example capital gain on the sale of US properties would remain taxable in the US only (art 13 of the US/FR tax treaty)

Hello! Thank you for the video. What about if a worked in France for a few months (shorter than 183 days) in France during the previous year and then moved back to my home country. Am I still considered a tax resident for the previous year when filing my annual tax return?
@frenchtaxonline7 ай бұрын
Hello Emma ! You might not be considered a tax resident for the previous year (depending on the situation) BUT you have to submit a french tax return for that year given that you received a french income. You'll submit this return as a non resident with your current address abroad. We can help you if needed!

Thanks for your fast reply. What would be the determinating factors? It was from September to January. Does the contract type matter?

@@emmaakerlund5774you are welcome. Your other streams of income and your tax situation in your home country would be factors - I'd recommend you to reach out to someone from our team to help you (there are a few tax tips we can't necessarily discuss on comments!)

What about people that work and live in Paris and work for UNSEF and pay no taxes anywhere?
@frenchtaxonline6 ай бұрын
Good morning, paying taxes and being a tax resident are 2 different things : you can be a french tax resident and pay no taxes because of your specific taxes (we have a lot of clients in this case) - you still have to declare your taxes in at least one country !
@albertinsinger74436 ай бұрын
@@frenchtaxonline This crazy tax stuff is basically a European , US, Canada, Australia New Zealand thing. Most of the world has no taxes or little taxes. But my question was about people who work for UNISEF and live in Paris and pay no taxes. That looks wrong to me. But France let’s them pay no taxes because they want UNISEF in Paris. If you start making exception. You do not have a democracy. The EU it is now known is not be a democracy but a very nasty type of dictatorship. Europe is a beautiful place . But the short comings are so massive it will go down the drain. By that I mean mass poverty is going to come. France already has 25% of its population living in poverty.
