Honestly, I feel that. I grew up with a very ... Let's say difficult Grandma who just thinks she gets to control everything, attack anyone and do whatever else she pleases and at the end of the day she is still in the right. I have seen myself and my siblings get hurt by her and a part of me hates her for what she has done. But she can be nice as well and she played an important role in my childhood sins my dad wasn't with us anymore. So, I get the idea of feeling both. I also have to say though that hearing what Stan said about his brother broke my heart to bits. This is not a joke. He thinks that he as a person is wrong somehow. Why does he think that? Probably because "gay", "girly" stuff makes your dad uncomfortable. Imagine having your mental health destroyed and starting to feel like you might not be worth enough, JUST BECAUSE SOMEONE ELSE FEELS UNCOMFORTABLE WITH THE WAY YOU WANT TO LIVE. And they blame it on you. "I think, gay is wrong, so stop being yourself! I don't like it! Be what I think is right!" That is just fundamentally wrong to me and I hope, one day no one will do that to their own impressionable children anymore. EDIT: You don't choose your sexuality. When I said "The way he wants to live", I meant the lifestyle behind it. Also, I believe that parents only have the right to forbid children from or harshly criticize them for something if it actually damages themselves or others. And no, "people might make fun of you for dressing the way you personally want to" das NOT count. That's their own choice, and the people who make fun of them are in the wrong. the "not confident because of someone (dad)" part really got me cuz growing up in an abusive family got me freaking traumatized to the point that i can just help but feel bad for myself. Like everything i do makes me really anxious cuz i might get yelled at (embarrassed) in front of a lot of people or even when its just me and them. Their verbal abuse made me overthink, gave me a lot of anxieties and doubt myself like wtf. ur supposed to shape me as a human being and not as a good-student-but-slowly-dying kid. Its really hard to have confidence for me cuz growing up no one was there to tell me i was doing good. Even i, sometimes, dont think im doing good. like even a pat would mean a lot. So aside from being a Leo, I know my craving for attention and love might be because im lacking of it. so yeah literally my motivation to study hard and get to a nice uni is just to get the fuck out of our house. im not gonna grow if im deprived of sunlight so yeah. lets slowly overcome this together. hope everyone else who suffers the same prob as mine get to knock it down and just be the bad bitch Stan is! haha HAPPY BIRTHDAY, STAN!!!! @Red Juls i totally understand how you feel, its tiring and suffocating to be in a space where you always feel anxious and fearful about even the smallest things in life and people dismiss it as "you're thinking too much" but that's how we were shaped being in the environment we live in. i recently got complimented from one of my teachers who actually observed what I was going through, having to be a perfect student while handling the role of the oldest in the family, and i cried because i was not used to something like this. it felt so good to be recognized because i never get it. i crave for affection and love because my family doesn't do that and it all became so normalized where we don't express any of our feelings anymore. i'm honestly so ready to go to college next year where i can get the freedom that i've been longing. let's get through this together and for others who experience the same or other problems as well. So, the part where you two talked about the overthinking everything and blaming yourself for everything really hit home for me. My dad can be toxic too and the smallest mistakes made by me or my sister will tick him off. My sister still seems pretty confident in social situations despite all this, but I find it extremely difficult to talk to people without thinking I’m doing something wrong. I'm in the closet but I really like spending time with my dad because he's really fun to be around and he always knows how to cheer me up. I’m also mixed with a Filipino dad, and he too would judge me all the time, even though I’m straight cisgender. As an adult today, I do feel socially conscious/on edge at least in work settings or in some family events, which could be an after effect of how I was treated growing up. Luckily I too have an East Asian mama who is amazing!

@@kalmia_k I live on my own now, so things are good! I just remember growing up, I was always walking on eggshells. If I was on the computer or watching TV, I’d get yelled at. If I said anything he didn’t agree with, there would be a long argument, so I learned it was better to not say anything at all. I later realized he’s most likely a narcissist, which is probably what Stan’s dad is, too :/ .
