A great video that explores sundry aspects of MYP in the limited time.

I feel that the 17 Sustainable Development Goals give a rich spread of "big ideas" / Concepts which can be fruitfully used when developing high order thinking conversations in class. Just a thought to make the MYP classes more engaging and connected with immediate world issues. An example of fact vs concept in today's scenario could be COVID 19 (fact) and globalization (concept). Very nicely presented by Lou.

In India, (CBSE) Class 9 Social Sciences spends a lot of time in the details of 3 historical events: French Revolution, Socialism in Europe + Russian Revolution and Hitler+Rise of Nazism. All content is very fact heavy but good educators are able to link these "processes" and ideologies with the bigger concepts and their present day relevance. eg Regional inequalities, attraction of nationalism and constant adjustment of policy between public and private enterprise. We are at present having a lively debate on converting reserve govt rice stocks into alcohol for hand sanitizer. Govt proposed bailouts to small and medium size enterprises to keep them afloat during pandemic also touch issues of socialism. This presentation helps remind us of the importance of "not missing the forest for the trees".

I very much enjoyed this talk and its content. It did, however, come off a bit overly pedantic with half the talk consisting of repeating multiple times very rhetorical and or obvious questions with heavy leading to exactly what he expects to be the correct answers to his "obvious questions". I feel it could be a more effective talk if he acknowledged in his content and form that he is talking to an audience of generally well versed educators and not a group of recalcitrant students.
