I just got this camera and watched many tutorials. I'm not tech savvy and new to cameras such as these so your video was the BEST well explained tutorial I have seen so far. Thank you sooooo much. I needed this step by step tutorial or I would never have been able to figure it out. Really appreciate it! :)

great video and thanks for the tips. I have a question, sometimes randimly when shooting video at night the quality comes out terrible, it looks like a 1980s tv show. Anything setting that I should have specifically on for night video? The videos also come out dark which make no sense since it has a 1.8 aperture. Thank you

As a beginner I have a question about manual settings for video ( have a sony rx100 mark 5 )... on the last trip I did some videos in auto mode and the result was a disaster.. the trees I was filming looked just way to crispy and sharp ( probably due to a very high shutter speed,, was a very bright day.... now after some research I set it up like this ( shutter speed priority mode,, so it is locked (depending on fps) but the aperture is changing automatically ,,, 24 fps, shutter speed 1/50 ,, aperture auto,, ISO auto... but even when it gets to aperture 11f (max) it is still overexposed,, in the case like the drone I have, I would regulate this with ND filters,,, what can I do in this case??? isn t it better to keep just a locked shutter speed so the camera can regulate automatically the aperture for getting the right amount of light??? cause the light conditions are changing constantly...just when increasing the shutter speed to 1/200 the exposure is ok,, but then i have broken the rule of thumb (shutter speed 2x the fps ).. What actually happens when I turn the ND filter on on the camera??? please explain a bit how to keep the values and what to do when light conditions change,, thanks a lot in advance and sorry if some of the questions are stupid but I am just a beginner in manual settings for video))))

Hey Brian. I am using my Sony RX100v as a concert camera for still photos. What settings do you recommend in the "S" mode to compensate for low lighting and movement of the subject on stage. Obviously, the flash is not an option for me in these music venues.

MoscowBaseStation yeah, if you go into S-Log, you're limited to ISO 1600. Not sure why, TBH, but it's certainly a restriction.

Y slog means you are shooting in native ISO. No corrections. As a film maker, to correct for this you need ND filters or change your other filming parameters to get your desired look.

+Brian Matiash Great video. Thank you. Almost all of those made sense for me. It was also interesting to see some of the feature differences between the M5 and the M3 that I bought. I cheaped out and bought the M3 because I wasn't sure I would like this camera. I am taking it on vacation to Paris hoping that I will be happy enough with it to not carry my DSLR for travel unless it is a photography specific trip. I tried the A6000 which is a good enough camera but doesn't have any good zooms. The image quality is nearly identical between this camera and the much larger A6000. If I really like it I may return it when I get home and get the M5 instead.

I have a hard time deciding which to buy: the V or VII. V for the faster lens and the VII for the mic input and upgrades in autofocus and so on.
@brianmatiash Жыл бұрын
I suppose it depends on what your primary use case is. If you’re mostly going to use it for taking photos, then the faster lens of the V may be more advantageous. The mic input is great if you’re planning on recording video/vlogs. I don’t recall the AF on the V being bad, so I wouldn’t be too concerned about that.

Brian, I am a true amateur getting by on auto on my first gen RX100 for years, and have finally realized it's like driving a ferrari in first gear...This was certainly by far the best and most succinct explanation of best settings I've come across as well. Can you recommend any other great videos making the basics of photography to neophytes re: aperture, iso, metering etc. and finally does using the Mark V make sense for shooting video with a gimbaled stabilized mounted interior for dash shooting of off road driving landscape capture...Or does it make sense to get a different camera for a non pro to get the kind of quality I'm seeking for a video series. It's a lot, and thanks for any and all info you may impart... I've had trouble finding such a mount at all for interior use...would really hate to lose a thousand dollar camera on some mountain forest road.Rick Broderick

Maybe you can help me, but I followed through and still don't get this one thing. My camera is turning on the slowmotion automatically about 40 second after starting shooting video... Haven't been able to point out why, in the high framerate setting, there is no setting to when it should start. I'm doing video's where I am talking to the camera not even mooving, I don't need slowmotion at all, but it seems to just turn itself on for no reason. Can someone help me with this? I would prefer turning slowmotion completely off, I will probably never use it. Thank you in advance. :) (I will write a reply here with my other account ''Paradis sur Terre'' so that you have a view of how I use my camera, if anyone has any recommendations, I appreciate fully, thank you everyone and thank you Brian) Another thing, I really love how you explain in this video, very straight forward going through the settings, very well explained.

@gabrielboisvert37334 жыл бұрын
I have found the answer by playing with it. I had made a false association. My camera was shutting down due to overheating, I though the sign showed on the camera was about slowing down. The slow motion occured because of recording in 120P, my computer interpreted this as a video that can be slowed down and did it automatically, but could be stopped, it was not the camera doing it. It shows that 120p is a good quality for a slowd down video I guess. :) Now have to set my settings to be sure my camera doesn't overheat :)
