I simply loved his explanation! I am Brazilian and I speak little English. And although you have the German accent (it seemed to me), his way of explaining was very good, really. Got it in practice more than 80% of the things you said. This is a challenge for me because I have difficulty understanding English when people talk a little faster. With you, it was great! Another important point is your personal position because you are very friendly and pleasant in their explanations. Congratulations!

Very happy!

Hi unluckylion, Thank you for a very well presented tutorial. I found it to be invaluable. I'm about to create an index for a friend who has researched a topic and written a 400 page document on it. I have never used InDesign before so your video has made it possible for me to help him out. Kind Regards, Alfred

Hi Lucky Lion. Thanks for this introduction to indexing. I've translated a 200page illustrated book about music and the original already has about 1000 words indexed. I wonder if there is a way for InDesign to search certain words that appear more than once and to place the page numbers, comma separated behind the one index entry. Do I have to go to each singe place manually and add the entry or can I tell Indesign to do the job for me?

When I create my index as you describe, it works flawlessly! However, my index is of part numbers which consist of letters and numbers so when I use the script to sort the entries cronologically, it includes the numbers which are part of the part number and sorts things completely wrong. Is there a way to look at the part number as a WHOLE then sort cronilogical by page number?

Hello there, I've watched your awesome video, but one question remains. For example, how do I index "Hand 3, 5" whereas in both instances on the text I have to highlight the same exact word. ID will not make duplicates. What is the workaround? Regards, Priscila

I'm working with a very long textbook (500 pages). I've figured out how to "add all" (which is great), but how do I limit it from listing the same page number multiple times? The words I'm including often appear multiple times on one page, so when I press "add all" - it's adding a number every time the word appears.

Hi unluckylion. Thank you for this! Question: Is there a way to tag an index entry as an image? For instance, my ID file has a diagram and I want to list it in the index as an instance of a term. Often indeces will list the page number followed by an italic i or something, indicating image. Thanks!

@DemetriosMPapadakes11 жыл бұрын
you can do without java scripts: make list of names in MSWord (name,enter,name,enter,and so on) select all,apply heading style.In Indesign create master pages with linked boxes the size of ONE name in height.Either paste names in first box OR paste all names in blank Indesign pages. (Apply paragraph style as needed if MSWord headings style didn't transfer to Indesign). Then add Body text as you please.After,do what this video tutorial says.(check alphabetically in index options)

I think I figured it out. Going to Window > Type & Tables > Index, when the dialogue box pops up it has a check box for "Book," which I assume applies to the whole book. I will play with it and see what happens.

hey, sounds like something you would need a script for (java scripts do work in indesign). I'm not familiar with these things, but I think people on the official adobe forum will have an idea. As far I know InDesing can not do this out of the box.
@VascoElbrecht11 жыл бұрын
hmmm good question, i never tried that. I assume as long as you have the main book document open indexing should work globally for all your documents. Anything else would not make much sense. You might need to synchronise the index over the book pannel, but well I'm not really sure. sorry : /

Anyone out there know how to create a index that uses say Russian alphabet or Japanese katakana, hiragana etc. ? all I can create is ABC... i need index of АБВ... ; あいお... i know i can add them to the Latin index, but one problem not all characters = a letter in the Latin alphabet. so where would i put ж ? no equivalent or say し, か ? I'll try to find the answer myself but so far no luck but i will continue searching
@drawtheword75907 жыл бұрын
I figured out, you just go to - Index panel menu> Sort Options> from there you just check the boxes of the languages you need. in addition if you chose Cyrillic it is by default: Russian so if you need Ukrainian etc. you go to the right of the check box> there will be a drop down menu for you to choose.
@DemetriosMPapadakes11 жыл бұрын
you make the index AFTER the book has been put together,i.e. after the project is consolidated. But open indexing SHOULD work.
