You guys always make us laugh, so much fun! The heat under the sun here is no joke! How expensive is New Zealand, is, an interesting question - our answer is yes, with a huge but - you spend less money on things you realize you don't need and you enjoy the nature over needing to pay to be entertained! This was a great topic for a video, well done.

You two have me in stitches today😂. “ the whole of the South Island moved east, closer to Australia” umm…. Australia is to our west. Great job you two, keep up the good work. P.S. Argentina is the closest county to Antartica, and is where you would board a cruise ship to Antartica, however Christchurch airport is used to fly out to Scott base.

I was talking to an American who was divorced but his children were here with him. His ex-wife was coming for a visit and he was booking her into a motel. She asked him if they had 'proper toilets' in NZ! I have been here 50 yrs so when NZ farmers received lots of subsidies. Milk was 2c, bread 4c, butter about the same. Apart from 8 yrs in Napier/Hastings have lived in Christchurch including through the earthquakes. Still love it but not sure I could cope with another quake

NZ should be compared to the Scandinavian county's in cost of living . We are one of the most free most liberal country's in the world. That freedom has a cost. Because we are in a very remote location with a small population we have little pollution. add the Ozone hole over the southern regions it means our sun light is very intense. Not hot but the sun can burn you even in a cloudy day in winter. NZ recirculated tap water is often cleaner than bottled water you can buy. Brian is right tank water safety depends on how much effort is placed on keeping it pure. Often kiwis do not know how lucky we are to live in "godzone " a paradise in the remote south pacific, I think you two have worked it out I know I have.

Thank you for being with us and for sharing your thoughts, Martin! We appreciate you. Have a great weekend (and yes...we worked it out about 14 1/2 years ago 😂!)

Strictly speaking there is and never has been an ozone “hole” as one generally understands it like a donut hole. It’s something scientists coined originally to convey in an effective way, their warnings over climate change effects to convince the general populace and politicians etc to take it seriously, shown graphically in the ozone depletion areas, mainly the Antarctic. Quite startling then. A great way to illustrate it as a hole that has simply stuck and became a worldwide catchcry and now become part of everyday belief and common misunderstanding. There is however parts of the ozone where it’s Less Dense, esp over Antarctica. This is what is really understood as the “hole”. It’s not a blanket thickness all over. The ozone has also recovered considerably since cfcs were banned so the publicity the saying got worked to some extent. Pollution or more the lack of it over NZ also contributes to less particles in the air, again letting more light through. This ends today’s lesson, lol.

We live in rural New Zealand, have tank water to our house, filtered twice, once through uv light, the BnB also is fed this way. Water is awesome, everyone loves the quality and clarity and it’s safe. To be fair, I still drink from the tap at work in town as it’s safe and clean and Aucklands tap water is fine too but there it’s treated and cleared of any potential nasties. Water in Perth Australia though, was rather discolored when we lived there, so sadly bottled water was the way to go. Bore water tainted buildings and houses in the suburbs when sprayed to keep the homeowners lawns alive. I believe because of water shortages there now that bores aren’t allowed like they were and they have salt water desalinated to provide or supplement their drinking water.

Well , actually Melbourne in the summertime is known to be very hot , hotter than in the north , like 44 degrees more or less. So not all that similar to NZ in the summer, but winter, yes. Although some parts of NZ can get to 40 degrees and a bit more , such as Central Otago, which commonly reaches 38 degrees in summer, but in the forties doesn't happen much now , it did regularly back in the seventies and eighties, but the climate has cooled since then .

If you get caught in a rip tide once past the breakers roll onto you back (saves energy) and kicking ya legs make your way at a 45 degree angle across the Rip this enables you to escape the Rip😮😅 and not tire you out. If you fight the Rip depending on your strength you have between 15 to 45 seconds before you are so tired you can,t stay a float and you drown😅. Hope that's helpful😂.

Lots of rural people will ask you if you want a drink and then get you a bottle of water from the fridge. Some regional cities have chlorinated because their filtration systems are not up to spec anymore. Water quality is 'there', but if you expect top quality filtered, chlorinated and fluoridated water like in big cities, you will be disappointed. The further from the big cities you are, the lower the chance of fluoride in the water. You have to go to the dentist to catch issues early... and dentists are in short supply. Some people do not have access to a dentist in NZ. If you are planning to move here, don't become one of those people.

Yeah I suffered under that 40c odd heat in Perth for a few years there. White euro male. Couldn’t go outside for most of the day in those temps. Good locals tip was to wet the top sheet so we could sleep at night. We often went to the mall to get away from the heat as they are air cond of course and I was amazed at how many old people spent their days there to keep cool too. Saves plenty on the power bill I guess.
