An old video, but still very helpful. I have a newer version of this soap pump, and after using up a couple of "baggy containers" of the Simple Human soap, I decided to try using the Palmolive or other soap that I buy in bulk at Sam's Club. It works great, but since that soap is thicker than the SimpleHuman soap, so over many months, it will dry out in the tip of the dispenser until one day the dispenser will get slower and more stingy, until it eventually clogs up totally. You might not need to disassemble the unit! I say try this before breaking out the tools! Here's what I did: 1. Always check the batteries first. It's the easiest thing to do so why not do that first? And while the batteries are out of the unit, you can wash the exterior of the unit, especially the underside of the spout, where the motion sensor is. Just don't get water inside where the electronics are. 2. Put a known set of good batteries in it, drain the reservoir, and then fill the reservoir a quarter way with only hot tap water. 3. With the batteries installed, press the "+" button several times to increase the amount of flow, then using your hand in front of the sensor, run the pump repeatedly until the blockage is cleared. It'll dribble at first and it might whine complaints at you, but for me, it took about 8-10 dispenses, and then the warm water was squirting out of the tip with some force. 4. Clean and dry everything, then mix your soap with a few teaspoons of warm water and stir it up, then fill the dispenser. 5. Run the pump a couple times until soap is coming out again.

Not sure if this would work for everyone, but I watched the video and thought "NO WAY". I have not used my dispenser since 2012, and actually put it in the "trash" pile. After some soul-searching, I figured I would at least TRY to fix it. I got some really hot tap water, and tried to run it through, and did that about 6 rounds, still no go. I could hear that motor powering away and actually see some swirling in the cannister with no results. I used some tweezers and "toggled" the little opening where the soap is supposed to dispense (just like in the end of the video) and BOOM!!! IT worked!!! Hope this is helpful to anyone that doesn't have the "fortitude" to try to dis-assemble the unit. Good luck!!!

mybrowne1 Your suggestion worked like a charm! The pump was clogged. I realize now that it happened about one month after using a new liquid soap that was too thick (Palmolive). I'll just water down the soap going forward. Thanks. You saved me a few dollars and the torture of having to take that device apart.

Very helpful! It helped me fix a dispenser I found at a garage sale.

that's an ok fix, but there's a faster cheaper way that doesn't void the warranty: 1. Empty out the soap. 2. Fill with cheap vinegar. 3. Seal the lid and shake. 4. Activate the dispenser and the clog should slip out. 5. Empty, refill and enjoy!

I unclogged my foam dispenser by filling an applicator bottle with 90% alcohol and flushing the tube. Whatever was in the tube was really stuck but after several attempts I unclogged the line. I will use vinegar next time. I was lucky I didn’t ruin it..

Anyone know how to get the battery cover off? My screw just turns and turns and doesn't come out.

We've had one of these for a couple of years but I swear we've spent more on batteries than on soap! It gets very light use but we are always having to fit new batteries. Terrible.

If you're using thicker soap, the batteries could be working too hard. Try my warm water trick above.

The easiest thing to do is use hot tap water and some distilled white vinegar. Let it sit for for 3 minutes and VIOLA! There is nothing that white vinegar cannot get clean or get a clog tube clear!!!

I am really disappointed in how often the unit clogs using aftermarket liquid soap. I have had to take mine apart at least 3 times. Wish there were better competitors.

I know this is an old post, but I would suggest using just a little bit of warm water in your soap. Not a lot, you don't want it watery. Just a few teaspoons for the whole dispenser. Then stir it up with a small spoon or a chopstick, and you're good to go.
