Describing lasers as "a rhythm game where your opponent is trying to fit inputs into falco's tempo" fits very well into my idea of the meta. Good ass vid yo.

Yes lasers have counter play, but if it was really so easy to implement then Falcos would've stopped using them a long time ago, even the worlds best falcos still use lasers all the time. I also resonated super hard with you thinking you've reached a new level of laser punish and then you go into game and realize that the falco doesn't have to approach and can just keep shooting lasers One final thing that only occasionally gets brought up when dealing with lasers is that in order to powershield or take laser, you first have to be on the ground (kinda obvious), but a big restriction that adds to the game is that you cant even jump nonchalantly without being mostly defenseless, you're encouraged to not leave the ground so it restricts the way you can play the game. Jumping over lasers to approach is possible and is my preferred way of dealing with them but it depends on their laser height. In conclusion, lasers are annoying as fuck and I'd rather play against any other character.

The only thing that makes lasers in combination with falcos moveset feel broken is the execution barrier to his side of deal. In order to deal with falco lasers, especially as a character like falcon, every level of counterplay, even dash out of laser, is way harder to execute than the falcos counterplay of "shoot laser differently". You even have it in your video. Learned how to dashback out of laster hitstun and then the falco moved on to the new level of the meta. Shoot 2 lasers.

by execution barrier do you mean physically or mental barriers?

I think there's a couple downsides of lasers that make them more balanced. One, lasering is very committal and only covers the area right in front of Falco. Other characters can always approach him from above. Two, Falco is a character that, for most characters, spawns at kill percent. You're not gonna be killing him at below 50% every time but he's always in risk of going down a stock

I feel like u could dig in into something I rarely hear being explicitly discussed which is the rhythm in the neutral game of fg, even tho we all know what it is, and we hear zain say things like s2j and mang0 are great doing off-tempo approaches, its actually really obscure. It would be a sick topic which I believe goes with the theme of your channel

thats a really cool idea! gonna need to do some musing on this one, do you have thoughts already on this or clips of those players you think are cool?
@franciscoalejandroheredias5173 жыл бұрын
@@DarwinDing Ok listen, I've actively tried to find a clip which embodies it, and I think I have a few but the thing I mean which is really obscure to me is how often this situation in melee happens Both players doing their own thing on neutral and COMMIT on almost the exact same frame, it is amazingly common I feel it when I play and I see it. I believe timming reads happen when a player realizes this state of flow of the match and uses it as an advantage Cliche enough I got a mang0 clip (recent) that I feel can ONLY and EXCLUSIVELY be described by this phenomenon The clip Ill post it on a reply to this cuz I gotta find it
