I agree with Jing, my Pink Princess would have this damage if the leaf got stuck. Btw CalMag also has a shit ton on nitrogen, both Ca and Mg come as nitrates so the nitrogen boost can also be helping not only the cations. But speaking of Ca, fun fact - I have some decorative stones that were extras with some pots, essentially white round pebbles, pretty common in gardens. And they are actually limestone, which is CaCO3, which in acidic environment releases both CO2 and Ca2+. I've been using them in some philo pots as additives to soil, they increase the pH and release calcium that most philos crave. And the plants with limestones have no issues at all unfurling the leaves, while I constantly struggle with other philos. I haven't really gotten to do a proper experiment but just food for thought - if you feel adventurous, add some limestone gravel to your soil, your philos might like it :)

Epipremnum Pinnatum Albo likes crazy amounts of light in my experience too. mine was browning the white parts of leaves and not giving me mature, nicely shaped leaves but now that it's a foot away from a south window it's doing so much better(no curtains.there's just a tree in the yard that filters a bit of the harsh southern light that the plants in my window recieve). in my experience it's easy going with my inconsistent waterings, not regularly fertilizing or even keeping the moss pole moist. it just wants lots of light. my highly varigated albo monstera needs tones of light to stop browning the white parts too

The ppp looks like the damage I get on my large leaf Hoya from flat mites. Just a thought. I am having success with sulphur spray for all mites, a soil drench seems to be a great preventative without having the residue on leaves. This was a really great video and I learned a lot! Thank you

The pink princess is from light. It is very very finicky when it is young to too bright of light. That happened to me in a south facing window and when I moved it it was fine but it also happened again once it got taller and closer to the grow light. Now that it is like standing up to my waist it never happens anymore I truly believe they get stronger as they get older.

This video was VERY helpful! Especially the close up of thrip damage. My Squamiferum looked exactly like that, on 3 of my lower leaves, when I recieved it. I cut off the damaged leaves, kept it isolated and the newer leaves look fine, but I had no idea what might of caused that rusty brown on the lower leaves. Now Im pretty sure it had thrips during its youth. Good to know! I will keep a close eye on that one. Thank you so much for this information!

I’m glad you found this helpful!! Unless the seller didn’t know that the plants had thrips, I feel like any kind of plant being sold with previous thrips damage should definitely be disclosed. Only because larvae can live in the tissue for so long- they can just pop back up on you overnight!

@@unplantparenthood I agree the seller should have told me. I love this plant it is really unique to my collection. I purchased it a few months ago and have been scouring it daily for pests, but it continues to be clean. I wonder how long thrips can germinate in the plant?

@@unplantparenthood Omg! That was just Ewww! Thank you, lol. Scary stuff. I'm tempted to toss this plant now. But it is in a room NOW where it is the only plant. I think it is okay, we will see... I may regret keeping it, but I don't give up easily on any of the plants I really truly love, its not in my DNA. Very valuable information for me, you have been so kind and lovely to help me🌱❤ Thank you, kindly! ~Lynn

I got that similar damage on my white wizard when i a it in water rerooting, I think it could be the sheath thing because the leaf took forever to unfurl and when it did it slowly started getting that damage.

BTW I wanted to add fertilizers with lots of nitrogen, make varigated plants less varigated (fertilizers containing lots of iron and humic acid do the same thing too). so if you want to keep your varigated plants, well, varigated, be careful with the amount of nitrogen in your fertilizers. I use 12-36-36( 12 is nitrogen) for my varigated plants while I use 20-20-20 for green ones. I sometimes give regular 20-20-20 to varigated ones too but just a few times a year.

Oh man, I get that same damage on my white wizard as you're getting on the PPP. SO annoying 🙄 I've definitely seen a ton of people on Instagram with similar damage on those plants and I haven't heard anyone that knows exactly what the cause is🤦🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️

I had the same damage on my white princess and PPP. In my case it was caused by grow lights ☀️ Their new leaves are very prone to burning 🙄 Every other philodendron, including my red anderson variegated, is absolutely fine. Try moving them to a different spot, hope it helps 💚🌱👑

Charmaine are they able to defend themselves from pests if they are inoculated with TPS better? I mean obviously not completely you still have to do your treatment but does it help the plant not be overcome? Sorry don’t know if I’m explaining myself well.

I have always wondered how those pesky spider mites don’t get caught in the nectar? It’s sooooo sticky! I just ignore the efn and it hasn’t caused any issues or gotten any worse. My atabaponse stays tacky.

My glorious looks like it has spider mites damage by the edges but has no signs of pests. Not sure if it had mites that were treated before I got it. But I think it’s EFN burn because the spots have dried EFN on the back of the leaves. The new leaf is fine so far. I think the glorious is prone to EFN regardless.

Man I have that identical kind of damage on my PPP and it's driving me nuts, I cannot for the life of me figure out what it is. It's surrounded by several other philodendron that are totally fine and normal, and I've tried changing up the growing conditions too and I'll still get that damage. Extremely irritating.

Honestly I think the issues with the PPP must be too much light. The burn part anyway! I’ve noticed the same on mine and the only thing that helped was pulling it further away from the light.

That definitely looks like burns/ sun bleaching on your ppp... my ppp used to do the same thing when I had it in brighter light... ppp is to me, the most light sensitive plant I've ever had... your leaves are really dark though, so I'm confused 😂 poilt being the leaves look like they got burned somehow

Don’t spider mites develop resistance to miticide and insecticide ridiculously fast? That’s probably your issue with them lingering on your guapo despite persistent treatments?

They do! Which is so freakin annoying. For spider mites I’m actually rotating between 4 different sprays. I’m convinced the only thing they’re not resistant to is fire

I thought you had little bag of predatory mites on some of your plants?
@unplantparenthood
@unplantparenthood Жыл бұрын
I did before! But they’ve all died off now. I’m in the process of re-ordering. Also, in my experience using mites is good for a small infestation or even as a preventative, but the amount I had in my full outbreak was better handled with using pest sprays.
