completely agree with you on the cat thing, other pet youtubers have made it seem like the worst thing you could ever do to your cat! My cat was a stray that my aunt found, so he had always been outside. He will sit and paw at the door and meow until we let him out. When he wants to go out he tells us and when he wants to come back in he tells us. He stays in our yard, mostly just lays on the deck and watches everything, and occasionally gets yelled at by a squirrel or two. We do always make sure he is inside at night though because there are things that could get him where I live, we just shake the treats and he’ll come running inside . I don’t understand why people have such a big issue with it, he is so much happier than if he were to be trapped inside all day with nothing to do!

It’s relatively safe for cats to be outside where I live, but cats are natural explorers, so realistically, they should be allowed outside for at least a while unless there is a reason that they can’t be. Mine used to go outside quite a lot, but now they’re old and lazy 😂

I totally agree ! It is fine using a big tank buy utilize the space ! Also I think it’s kinda dumb to buy a 10 gallon tank for let’s just say a leopard gecko when in a few weeks there gonna need a 40 gallon 🙅‍♀️

Adopt don't shop is a really good movement, but the problem is we spent months, and i mean it, searching for a dog. IT WAS IMPOSSIBLE. Some animals couldn't be kept with kids (which is frankly stupid i'm young but know what to do), can't go with cats, can't handle other dogs ect... It's very rare in some cases or impossible to adopt animals. It's always better if you can, but you just can't always.
@kayleighbyrne5191
@kayleighbyrne5191 3 жыл бұрын
It can be really hard going though a charity. We wanted to adopt an older dog, but we couldn’t. The charity wanted us to be earning a certain amount so that we could actually afford to keep and maintain the animal (fair enough), but also expected you to be home most of the day while earning, which just wasn’t realistic.

Interesting to see your view on outside cats - from my experience it’s standard in the Uk to allow them outside, generally if you live in an apartment or anywhere with a height issue then they’d be indoor cats, however, it’s common practice here. Always had cats, always had cats in and outside but generally we would bring them inside overnight 🤷‍♀️ thought of to be a bit cruel to have them only indoor here xx

Hannah Janes that’s why I went into several points on this topic because I definitely believe it’s very situational and I CANNOT STAND when people get downright disrespectful over it. Animal care is not black and white no matter what species that animal is.

BB's Beasties absolutely agree! I think it’s very easy to explain your points like an adult and be respectful, a difference of opinion isn’t an excuse to be rude, there’s enough awfulness on the internet already 👍❤️ great video xx

Honestly all cats should be kept inside because of weather getting to hot or cold and because of how small they are so they could be easily killed by predators. Even small predators like foxes. Not many people stop to think about that and its sadly seen as pretty normal to have barn cats and outdoor pet cats. Even I myself had outdoor cats a few years back. I've had cats killed by predators, ran over, ran away, you name it and will never allow another cat outside again. Only 3 of my cats survived being outside and I still have them to this day. They are much happier and healthier and more friendly since they've been inside cats. And they have no problem being inside and only 1 of them ever tries to get outside. I know it's not a popular opinion but I've learned from experience. 99% of cats are just not the kinds of animals that can safely stay outside.

I understand about your cat. I mostly have a problem with ppl who live in more dense city/town areas. I stopped my car for someone’s cat on my way to work and a couple of days later I found the same cat dead. I also found a dead kitten under my car. Both really ruined my day. Most of the time I just think ppl are neglecting the responsibilities they took on when they got a cat.

Hey BB what about pet stores? I know you can't completely trust them because the animal you get from there CAN be sick, but I got my red eared slider turtle named Taco from there and I have had her for about 5 months now and she is fine.

My cat has to be outside or he'll meow and meow until we let him out and he spends a few hours inside during the day but he's also neutered and has never even shown interest in hunting animals outside and he's 9 years old😂 My other cat goes outside every now and then but never leaves the yard because she's afraid of everything

Excellent points! You brought up a ton of things that I haven't seen other Pettubers talk about and I'm with you on pretty much everything. When I got into the reptile hobby 15 years ago I went with minimums and mimicked what I saw others doing, but I'm so on board with the higher standard of care being set now and I'm committed to upgrading as much as possible. There are so many different ways to go about meeting those standards though, and that's where lots of drama happens. On the outside cats topic - I'm so sorry your little man was not able to be habituated to indoor life. Growing up my family had many outdoor cats, and most of them didn't make it to old age. Unfortunately it only takes one coyote (or stray dog) to wander onto the property for the worst to happen, and while it's true some cats simply don't have the desire to hunt, most do, so I'm glad you're not advocating for it as a good way to keep cats in general. Well spoken!

Aurora's Animals thank you! My heart FOR SURE desires him to be inside but that’s just not who he is! So I make sure to check all the boxes and care for him the best I possibly can! There’s always that risk that he won’t make it to old age, which breaks my heart to even imagine, but I will definitely do what I can to prevent that!

He's a bit special to begin with.. the pet store messed him up man :( He's albino and they kept a bright light on him, he was all dried out (he's a completely different colour now than when I got him a month ago) ... they had him for months before I got him.. no idea how old he is.. I've been assist feeding him, and I've been looking at a formula with a syringe that will give him more nutrients... I found a butt shed and a poop today, so I think I'm doing okay... they said he's a year old but he only weighs 26g so I guessed 8 months when I got him, just stunted:( thanks for replying!

Not all cats do well in a house I actually take care of like 3 diff cats in my neighborhood lmfao they are outside cats and always have been I feed her 3 times a day However there is a dozen people that feed her she is neutered she was captured and set free back at the 711 the best part of it all !!! Ahahah she don't let no one but me and my wife nd kids go near her everyone gets all but hurt !! Ya know what it is the real issue is people run there mouth but they never take into account that there is always 3 sides to every story !! That is exactly what my 711 cat does when I try to grab her and she shoots straight in the air!! I try to take her home with me Everytime if she jumps in my car one day I will do anything in my power to keep her however I have a fear that since I live within a mile of said 711 I'm petrified that she will always try to get back "home" 711

I think you should maybe be a tad bit more strict on the adopt don’t shop. But for cat dogs I am a strong believer in NEVER breeding pit bulls and bullie breeds and cats I don’t think it’s good . Reptiles it’s a tad bit different with reptiles it’s kinda 50 50

Point number 4 is really importaint I think. Because these animals are (unless they are wild caught which isn't great) domesticated! They won't know the difference between a plastic hide to a piece of bark. They don't care if it looks like a forest or plastic bowls. I am refering more to reptiles in this but it can apply to different animals.

I agree with alot of these! Especially the adopt-don't-shop movement. While I am firmly against outside cats and keep mine inside only... But I do see your point about doing it responsibly like you are with Chester. People need to understand that in animal care, its not all black and white. What works for one person, might not work for someone else. It shouldn't have to be so controversial to voice different opinions then others. Always do what works for you and YOUR animals :)
