My goodness! I can’t imagine going through everything you all just did, but it did make great content, got my heart pounding a bit and had me thinking about where I’d be in that situation, more like Monica, or more like Darren. I think I’d be somewhere in the middle, but having said that, the constant beeping and all the wind, rocking, screeching, flapping sails, etc, would definitely have driven my stress level up closer to Monica’s level, lol. Hope the rest of your trip improves! 🙏🏼 Stay safe!

We have learned so much about stress since we started boating. This adventure though was a bit more than we’d hoped for. And no doubt, loud sounds can most definitely increase the stress level! Unfortunately it doesn’t get much better (as you’ll see in the next episode). However, we did have an amazing stay in Bermuda and the Azores. Thank you for watching. We truly appreciate your support 😊

This video portrayed my very feelings about sailboats. Seems every sailboater I've met spend an exorbitant amout of time and energy worrying about fuel, food, power and water usage. I dont see the fun.

Get your point! This is the only sailboat we’ve been on so we have nothing to compare with. We spoke with many sailors in the Azores and most of them seem to enjoy it. There are probably many factors that caused this crossing to be a no fun crossing. One big one is us not having any sailing experience. Another one is the boat itself. It wasn’t ready! We have boating experience but have never sailed or crossed an ocean. Thanks for your support 😊🙏

Over the years I have learned that panic is the enemy. Methodically work the problem. If you do that then you will not have time to deal with the what ifs. On a boat if you are not taking on water or on fire then you have time.

That is so true and worth writing down so you don’t forget when stress levels are rising. Appreciate your response and support 🙏

Oh Boy, I guess there is no better way to learn then by jumping in head first. But wowzer. That was terrifying. I am glad I only sail on youtube.

We bit of more than we could chew on this one. We live by it’s better to regret something you have done than something you haven’t. We will have to see if we still agree once this is over, lol Thanks for watching 🙏

Should have stayed in Bermuda until sail was confirmed functional. You leave harbor with only a single engine for propulsion, it seemed like a case of gotta get there itis, which kills alot of people. Not saying i know much better, but i had to watch all the videos on this, you kept going and going when postponement or turning around was the right decision

Yes, and yes. The captain was very impatient to leave whenever we were ashore and used the engine constantly when we were at sea. Whenever we suggested slowing the boat down when we were slamming into the big waves, he would say “we’re never going to get there”. Thank you for watching our video and for commenting.

So grateful that you made it through all that unscathed! Darin has always been calm, cool and collected. But Monica was preparing for the worst which is always a good idea in an iffy situation. Great team!

Omg, you poor guys. Hey, on the bright side it made for some good content and excitement. Monica, I would have been stressing out too. Darren on the other hand stayed calm and cool. Must be his temperament and military/law enforcement background.

This content came at a big expense. Darin being calm helped me not to panic. We have learned so much about our strengths and weaknesses through boating, lol Thank you for your support 😊

I've been binging my way through your videos and all of a sudden you were returning to Florida ...THEN... suddenly you're on a sailboat in the Atlantic. How the heck did that happen? There seems to be a giant hole in your story. I was wondering what did you do with YOUR boat when you returned to Florida, how did you connect with the sailboat, what did you do to prepare for sailing, etc, etc. I'd love to hear what transpired.

Thank you for watching our video and sorry for the confusion. The sailboat is not our boat, it belongs to the captain who we met while we were cruising in the Bahamas. The captain was looking for crew to help fulfill his dream of crossing the Atlantic on his sailboat. We told him we would do it, but that we didn’t have any experience sailing (we live on a trawler and have cruising experience). The captain didn’t think this was a problem as he knew how to sail and emphasized on how easy it is to sail so he would teach us. Sadly, it turned out differently. The captain is not a good sailor, his sailboat was not ready to make a crossing, and we were never taught how to sail, hence all the problems. We should’ve asked more questions prior to leaving and we should’ve demanded a sea trial. Anyway, after the rescue we needed a break. Monica was suffering from PTSD and needed time to recuperate. We have returned to Florida and we are now back on our own boat waiting for hurricane season to pass so we can continue cruising. We believe the sailboat was repaired enough to continue to Spain but we have no contact with the captain so can’t say for sure what happened after the rescue. Thank you so much for your concern and for commenting. We appreciate you 🙏

I really hope you reported this guys .. he truly dangerous to anyone needing services.. please report so he can not longer do this again ..

I think he was also miserable by that point and his intention was to end the trip asap. We were surprised at his decision, but supported it. We were also at the end of our rope. Thanks for watching and commenting 👍

@@yard2yacht You are really a nice person, as a captain it is his duty and legal responsibility to stay with the ship until all the options are exhausted... the situation was uncomfortable but not enough to abandon the ship, this is the reason they did not want to take him when he asked .. shame on him. By the way do you keep bananas in your boat? .. I am asking because I have done the crossing at least 10 times and I have never seen a ship !!! either going east or west ... and you on the first crossing see one, and on top of that , in a collision course !! .. good lord !!. As I said before .. after this you sailing days will be like " a drive in countryside in a summer afternoon .. "... keep sailing and be safe

It’s interesting that you say that. We didn’t just see one ship, we probably saw 10, containers and tankers. And that doesn’t count what we saw on AIS close by. Almost all of them were heading west. I think that means we were motoring on the wrong side of the Bermuda high, beating into the wind, and the current that the ships were using to push them.

We decided to share the video showing what can happen when you rely more on courage than skill. We learned our lesson the hard way and will not repeat it. We hope others will think twice before they decide to do something similar. Thanks for watching the video 😊
