I love the look of the press. It’s got that old school tool flavor. I’ve always been a player, never really worked on my own guitars. But thanks to you and the KZbin luthier community, I’m getting more and more confident to do advanced work the guitars in my home. And with 3 boys who all play, it not only save a lot of money, but it’s very rewarding as well. I’m currently tooling up to do my own build. So thank you for the inspiration and as always, great video.

Hey David, Good to hear you get some useful information and inspiration from my videos and are getting into maintaining and even building your own guitar(s).

When you make the block for the press make it thicker. Your press bar is at about 8 o'clock so you are pushing the frets in, but if you can get the bar to be at 11 o'clock and you pull down, you'll find it easier to get the same amount of pressure

Hi Knightyyz, Thank you for the tips. Since this video I made some adjustments to the press and it works great now. I added a 'table' to the base of the press for more surface area and support and indeed changed the angle of the handle like you suggested.

@@UnquendorGuitars always a pleasure dude and yes I can imagine it is. And this is Ade, Lin's other half - I just pinch her account to go on KZbin, not bothered to create my own 😎 . But that aside, seriously this is an awesome channel so thank you very much for all the help you are giving... Just ordered my first batch of wood, just got to sort the hardware now!!!

A in feed and out feed support and mounting the press to the bench will help. The biggest help is to over bend the wire to 11" so the barbs will move slightly side ways .lightly tap both ends on the fret board then press. They will go in straight without leaning. Dont forget to clean your wire with naptha😁😁

Hi Mr Frontranger, Thank you for the tips. I will definitely try them out on the next fretboard.

So gutted you lost the footage of modifying the arbor press. I have thought about going down that route but not sure how to tackle putting the hole in there. What is the advantage of this over the hammer? Although listening to what you are saying I think I may just stick with the hammer! Q&A: Where did the name Unquendor come from? Q&A: How long have you been building guitars? Q&A: What got you started in Guitar Building?
@UnquendorGuitars4 жыл бұрын
Hi John, Yeah I was pretty gutted to when I found out I had accidentally deleted the footage. But I think most of us on KZbin had that happen once or twice. Drilling the hole was quite easy to be honest. Just marked the center and used a handheld drill to first drill a 4mm pilot hole and followed it up with a 10mm drill bit. Just use a lot of cutting oil and good bits.The tricky bit was keeping the drill straight. Next I had to drill another hole and tap some tread for a fixing screw to keep the insert in place. And I replaced a bolt for one with a little handle to make the press easy to adjust. The advantage of a press supposedly is that it is faster and more accurate opposed to using a hammer. When the fretboard is radiused correctly the frets should go in more consistent which should make leveling the frets easier and faster if needed at all. And there is less chance of hitting the fretboard by accident with the hammer. And thank you for the Q&A questions. I will most definitely answer these in the upcoming video.

Perfect work my friend, congratulations for the new fret press , it's a great tool. At the moment I use a fret hammer and then press the frets with the radious block and put cianocrilate from the side of the fingerboard, I enjoy the work but in the future I Would like to go for a fret press. A friendly hug!
@UnquendorGuitars4 жыл бұрын
Hi Hugo, Thank you once again. A fretting hammer also get's the job done just as wel as a press but takes a bit more effort. Once I'm more familiar with using a press I might make a comparison video between the two methods.

Hi Dan, Can you give us the name of your wood supplier? Great video's. Keep it going.
@UnquendorGuitars3 жыл бұрын
Hey Hugh, Of course I can. My supplier is "Masave Fijnhouthandel" it's a dutch wood supplier. Unfortunately they don't have a webshop so international orders might get a little tricky. I know they'll take international orders depending on where you're from but they're more focused on local business.

hi, do you use fret tang nippers?
@UnquendorGuitars4 жыл бұрын
Hi Gurup, No I don't. Fret tang nippers are mostly used for fretting necks that have a binding of sorts which my necks don't have.
@GloriousDutchPancakes4 жыл бұрын
Waar heb jij die nijptang vandaan?
@UnquendorGuitars4 жыл бұрын
