I read a quote by Yu Suzuki in a magazine in which he described how heartbroken he and his team were after putting so much effort into Saturn Shemue and Saturn VF3, and how proud they were of the results of their hard work, just to see their cancellation. To me, when he sits back in his chair and closes his eyes, it seems that it’s just too difficult for him to talk about. It’s quite sad.

Thanks for watching and commenting. It's hard to say why he doesn't want to talk about vf3 saturn with out speculating. It's most likely because he was disappointed it never came out after all the hard work and him announcing it was coming to saturn. There's two logical reasons it never came out 1/ he couldn't get it to reach his own very high standards on Saturn in the time he had to complete it 2/ Sega cancelled it as they wanted it to be a Dreamcast exclusive to help shift consoles. If I was to guess I would say it's the second reason and Sega cancelled it, by that time they had give up on Saturn. There's no doubt the Saturn version would have had to make compromises, but I would love to see it 👍

@@retrodadandmodernlad9857 Could be that, but it was common for cross generation consoles to feature the same game, even if the previous generation releases are compromised, the Master System and the Mega Drive share dozens of titles, Golden Axe, Mortal Kombat titles and many, many more. Still, it could be a marketing move, as you suggest.

@@roberto1519 thanks for watching. Yes, sometimes you will get games come out on an old computer and the new console. However, sega had give up on Saturn and desperately needed Dreamcast to do well. Having the popular in Japan vf3 on Dreamcast was a big draw to get people to buy the new console. If it came out on Saturn people might have waited before getting the next console and sega needed to try take advantage of the head start before PS2 came out. That's just my opinion, hopefully we get more information on it all one day 👍

Could be that, SEGA isn't known for making the best choices. I'd add budget to that, let's consider the Saturn's biggest market was its home country, making both VF3 and Shenmue available for it AND the upcoming Dreamcast (specially to make it more successful overseas where the Saturn didn't have the same impact as the previous 16-bit console could be a smart move, too. There are indeed many reasons why this kind of stuff happened back then, it's sad, though, Shenmue would be the swansong for our Saturns.

The Saturn was such a powerful machine with so much untapped potential that it's damn near heartbreaking. All you have to do is look at that Shenmue Saturn version to see how astounding it would have been in the late 90s, and even in released games like every Panzer Dragoon game or NiGHTs into Dreams. I love my Saturn and am eternally glad I kept it. Thank you for showing this list, I had no idea about most of them and that RPG in particular looks like it would have been a blast to play if it ever got released.

Thanks for watching. Yes, I think Saturn had another gear and games like shenmue, vf3, and the sonic adventure Saturn (sonic world in sonic jam shows the progress sonic team made for Saturn version)could of took the system to another level. If you like FPS games check out the hell slave homebrew video I have on my channel. That is very impressive. Hopefully, one day some of the games in this video will be released online for everyone to play 👍

The Saturn was such a unique piece of hardware, none of that wobbly textures of the PS1! I think VF3 and Shenmue were probably a bit too ambitious for the hardware though, and it was probably for the best we got the Dreamcast ports we got. Even VF3 on DC wasn't arcade perfect, so i can imagine the Saturn would have had to involve too many compromises. It probably took until the release of the 360 and PS3 before home consoles could be considered more capable than Segas Model 3 arcade board!

Thanks for watching. Yes, there's no doubt there would of been compromises made to get any model 3 games to run on Saturn. It would be fascinating to find out what comprises they would have made. The model 3 was a beast and still to this day the games look and play brilliantly 👍

@@costumeninja1914 I'm not sure it was more "powerful", at least not in many regards. The "Naomi" arcade board which the Dreamcast was based off, was intended as a lower cost arcade board, as Model 3 was insanely expensive (and powerful, particularly the latter versions/steps).

This was nice to watch! VF3 on the Saturn would have been so cool with the 4MB add-on or whatever they have planned to run on the SS (White 64X etc.) but i'm pretty sure, that even with a add-on device it only would run at 30 FPS just like SoulEdge (Soul Blade) on PS1. VF3 had massive 3D stages and the floor also was not "flat".

Thanks for watching and commenting. Yes, even if they had of used a graphics accelerator cartridge the Saturn would still not of been able to achieve model 3 arcade perfect graphics. I appreciate you tackled a lot of the misinformation around VF3. There was a weird poster years ago on Sega Saturn uk forum and Assembler games who would post unsubstantiated crap about the game and how he had industry sources that mysteriously he could never reveal when asked for more information. I ended up challenging him on assembler forums years ago about it, athanemia? Was his handle I think? No doubt AM2 reviewed what was feasible, but the ‘special’ touch for VF3 were the multi layered floors and high elevation which would have been impossible with VDP2 flat planes. Maybe someday some sources will speak but I think VF3 is starting to become a cottage industry of spin for Saturn fans and has turned slowly into its own collective ‘Mandala’ effect moment.

Thanks for watching and commenting. Yes, there is alot of information online concerning vf3 Saturn in forums and most of it is has absolutely no evidence to back up what's being said. Then alot of the time information does get repeated as fact like you said. I tried to just present what we do know and speak logically in this video. The multi layered stages where a big highlight of vf3 and these would of been difficult on saturn. Would they have sacrificed frame rate to make the stages more detailed.... It's hard to say but the high frame rate and crisp graphics are what made vf2 port so good. I like to think with more experience and better tools developed for saturn since the vf2 port that AM2 would of surprised us by giving a good port but there's no doubt it would of been a down graded port. However, until someone who worked on the game talks about it it's impossible to know. I really hope we do get at the least more information and screen shots one day👍

I am a 5th generation collector and my collection is massive. I'm also an SNK guy as well that has a fairly decent library for the Neo Geo AES/MVS/CDZ. Having said that, if I had any of these games you can be sure I would have them preserved for future generations. Unfortunately, many of my collector peers happen to be misers. They hoard these games solely to stroke their own egos. In my eyes they are just as the many publishers actively trying to take physical media away...they just want to control everyone and I can't stand any of them. Maybe one day I will stumble across one of these games as I would enjoy sharing it with the world.

I kinda think he thought of his projects like one of his kids...💔💔💔 Now, while I THOROUGHLY enjoy Fighter's Megamix (US AND Japanese), I don't think it would have been a wise decision to release VF3 on Saturn. To me, it seems like FMM was a throwback to Yu because of the cancelation. FMM is VERY nice to play, kinda hard on the eyes. Maybe he would just prefer not to speak of vf3 Saturn, as since it never came out he looks on it as a low, but who knows. He's happy to discuss Saturn shenmue. I am a big fan of fmm, but it feels closer to fighting vipers than virtua fighter. The amount of content is unreal in fmm and having the dodge/ vf3 character moves are great, but compared to virtua fighter 2 the frame rate is lower and the graphics are not hi-resi. Sega really should do a new fighters megamix, that would be awesome 👍

@@retrodadandmodernlad9857 It isn't finished, despite the common misconception. Very close to it, but a small few features are missing, and the game has a problem with random crashing. The slow down is crippling at times, and not in a way that couldn't have been significantly improved. Thanks for watching. That's a good question. It's the only game on the list that we have not seen video footage and images released for. The reason I included it is because despite the lack of information available. There was a significant time period between when it was announced as being in development to when it was cancelled. This combined with yu Suzuki saying they had already concluded research for three months would indicate it was likely in some type of playable form when it was cancelled (after around a year and half). Although, how far along development it got is unknown. It is a game people often talk about and there is alot of unsubstantiated rumours online. So it's interesting to detail the information we do know on the game. Hopefully, in the future we will get some more information and possibly a playable version.

Thanks for watching. Japanese magazines covered the press conference Yu Suzuki announce it as coming to saturn and he said they had been looking into it for 3 months. Then when being cancelled officially in 98 it was said to have been in development at the same time as Dreamcast version (which has a very short Dev time) with Japanese magazines quoting sega pr. That's the main information that's available and not just speculation. Unless we hear from someone who was involved there's not a lot to go on apart from that. It wasn't unusual for Sega to wait until a game was close to completion to show footage of it running. Fighter mega mix was announced at same press conference as vf3 Saturn, but fighters mega mix was due for release in Japan less two months later. Shenmue was in development for Saturn a while but again it was not showed off at the time. It could be the case it was cancelled much quicker and sega just never announced it was cancelled, but there's no solid evidence at the moment that was the case.
