Watching this makes me smile. It's been a long tough road for Penn State football. I loved what Joe Paterno stood for and was proud to have had him as our coach, but he did stay on too long. He probably should have left Penn State in the late 90s, but we did still have a few successful seasons, it is just it was tough recruiting with Paterno at his age; recruits loved the man, but they were worried if he had lost a step, and if he was going to stay coaching or not. In any case...we all know what happened next. I still think Paterno just could not believe that a man would do that to a child. I think he probably thought he knew Sandusky well, and that it was just so unbelievable that a man would do that to children. But, he should have followed up on the rumors. He didn't do it, and you just know that ate him up and killed that man. That extreme disappointment in himself may have manifested into cancer and ended him. All that good that he did over the years... and for it to turn out like that, I'm sure it was devastating. No, no man is perfect, but you cannot argue with what Joe tried to do for his players and that program, he really wanted to do good. In the end, the world judged him, as if they would have come in with a cape and literally flew every little child hurt by Sandusky to safety.People sure love a witch hunt! They always think they would have responded accordingly. 20/20 hindsight sure is a wonderful thing. It would be nice to have seen all these people that judged him have to go through the same scenario as Joe, because though these people think they would have saved the day, many people may have responded just like Joe did. People have to think about these things without 20/20 hindsight.. But you people go on judging... you are all so perfect. But on to the present: Franklin has come in and re-established success. I think Franklin is a great modern college football coach. and I don't see him leaving PSU at all. I think he is a family man and would love to coach Penn State for as long as he can. We wanted Bill O'Brien to be what Franklin is. We lucked out with Franklin.. that is clearly obvious. The man won a Big Te championship with recruiting classes that were average at best. If you look at our recruiting now, we are already pretty damn good at it. Once we start sticking around in the top 5 and top 10 again, we are really going to put a clamp down on some seriously fertile recruiting grounds. Who else do we have to worry about in the north east? All we have to do is put up a wall around the north east, and we are going to walk away with blue chip talent from all around that area. And these kids are tough and smart! Hey. they go through North east winters! We are going after smart players, too.. and we all know it is better to get a good and smart player then an elite athlete that is not the brightest. The biggest disappointment is missing out on Fields, because he does have that IT factor ( great ability and intelligence) Look at who Ohio State is getting at QB, and you will see that they are going to struggle with the QBs they are bringing in. It is nice to see Parsons has come around. I thought he was too impressed with the bright lights coming from Ohio State, but it appears he is smarter then I was going to give him credit for. He is the type of player that Penn State is ready now to start bringing in... Penn State is back! WE ARE
